Just off the A68 it is one of the largest forests in England. There are various pricing options for vehicles, visitors arriving on foot do not have to pay.
The visitors centre has toilets, cafe, bike hire and lots of parking.
It is Very popular do get their early and watch out for bikers coming up behind you at speed.

Been to Hammers lots of times and the mountain bike trails are great but can't see any justification for the rip off parking charges on bank holidays. They say it's to pay the staff extra, but more people would visit if they just had the regular charges and heard lots of people saying they just weren't going to pay at all due to the hiked up prices.
That being said considering the weather we've had recently the mountain bike trails are in great condition and really well maintained.
This would have been a 5 review if it wasn't for the rip off parking.

Had a fanstastic day in Hamsterley Forest, follow the Blue Trail and enjoy Hamsterley Unearthed, an outdoor art exhibition of work produced by New College Durham FdA Visual Arts students. I took photographs but highly recommend a visit to get the most out of these pieces in the forest surroundings, absolutely fantastic. Pick up a flyer from the information centre to find out more about each piece and enjoy your visit. The exhibition is on until 9th April, a great day out over the Easter Weekend.
