Well worth a visit, charming insite into a disappearing way of life. The film about how the museum was started is facinating and inspiring.
Check your maps though as it is not a government museum it is not well signposted.

“Very Interesting”
Reviewed 31 August 2012

A really interesting outdoor museum depicting many aspects of Cretan life through the ages. We were greeted by a very helpful lady who directed us to a showing of a video about Crete in general and the building of the museum. We were given an excellent leaflet which guided us around the various exhibits but we were not offered an audio guide which would have been very helpful as most of the exhibits do not carry an English translation. I can only assume that the audio guide is not currently available. This is still good value for six euros and I would recommend it to anybody visiting Hersonnisos.

“Lychnostatis open air museum”

We went there in May of this year to pass an hour.
More than 3 hours later, we were still there. A really interesting place, and had part of a guided tour with a Dutch lady who helps run it (Kirsten?) She is an absolutely superb guide, and obviously very proud of the place.
Recommend also the hone cakes from the cafe.
If you paint at all, you will find loads of subjects for you to take photos of and work on when you get home. DON'T MISS IT - WELL WORTH EVERY EURO.

“Excellent lots to do”
Reviewed 28 August 2012

Beautiful place. Check the opening times, as it does close early. Very informative. Don't need to pay extra for the video, but it does inform you of what you are looking at, but there is information about. Need plenty of time to really look round.

“Surprising, interesting and charming”
Reviewed 26 August 2012

I think all the family found something to interest them at this museum. Wel; worth going to the video presentations first before looking round as they explain a lot about the museum and its creators. It is an unusual combination of recreations of Cretan life in the past with modern art about Crete and it's history. the cafe is also very good.
