Normally I would not go to Cherchonissos, but I had to go there for work. Cherchonissos is a very busy and touristic village. I stayed in the Albatros hotel and that was a good decision. It is a quiet and comfortable hotel, with friendly staff. I had a room in the old, not renovated part of the hotel, with balcony and a glimp of the see.
The breakfast was fine and they offer many services in the hotel. One remark: they don't provide free wireless internet (you had to pay for it). I think that this service should be included in the price.

Room Tip: The superior rooms in the new building are better than the basic rooms.

Package booked thru' Olympic Holidays.
Billeted in the old part of the hotel which could benefit from refurbishment.
Quality of the food left a lot to be desired, but the dining room staff (mostly from Eastern Europe )more than compensated for any misgivings.
Great staff wonderful short break
Beware the local bus service, it runs for the drivers benefit not the fare paying public.

Room Tip: For a short break, the standard room is acceptable, any longer, upgrade to superior

We stayed at this hotel for 9 days and we had originally booked a standard room (I had not read tripadvisor reviews in detail before booking, but had only checked the overal rating of the hotel). It is true what the other reviewers said that there is a vast difference between the standard and superior rooms. The standard rooms are very small and the bathroom is even more cramped with a very small shower which resulted in a flooded bathroom every night. Furthermore the mini-fridge provided is very old and makes a terrible noise: it was that bad that we had to plug it out every evening before going to sleep, which meant no cool drinks in the morning. The whole room basically reminded me of the small studio appartment I lived in during college: not the luxury feel of a four star resort. If you are unlucky enough to have gotten a standard room facing the street and near reception like we, you will be kept up during the night by the loud partypeople who return to their rooms. I even bought earplugs in a local pharmacy, which was a first for me on holiday.
We tried to upgrade immediately, but since the hotel was fully booked, we only succeeded in getting a superior room for the last four days and this made all the difference: superior rooms are big and airy, with modern furniture and ammenities and located at the back of the hotel so no noise at all. I feel the difference between the room categories should not be this vast in a four star hotel: the standard rooms are just not of four star quality.
On the upside, food in the hotel was very good, we could always find something nice to eat and the showcooking was very good. Staff was also very friendly and accomodating, especially reception staff and the staff in the dining room.
Two things in general I found unbecoming. The first thing were the hours for dinner: you could only have dinner as from 6:30 to 9 pm, which is just to short a time for the amount of people that is having dinner and the seating provided when the hotel is fully booked: we frequently had to wait for a table. Also, if you rent a car and you make some day trips, 9 pm is very early to stop serving dinner, taking into account the fact that you have to shower and dress up after your return to the hotel: it becomes a very rushed affair. The second thing that irritated me, was the fact that they would not give you a second keycard. The keycard was necessary to operate the electricity as in many hotels these days and the aim of not providing a second card was obviously that guests would not leave lamps and airconditioning, etc turned on all day long, while not being in the room. Although I can understand the ecological point of vue, this also meant you could not charge your phone, camera or any other appliances during the day. Also it meant that you always had to be together in the room: one person could not go shower or rest, because either that person would not have electricity or the other person would not be able to enter the room without disturbing the person already present in the room.
If returning to this part of Crete, I would probably look for other options.

Room Tip: Book a superior room!

Upon arrival we were dropped on a backstreet and taken into a dark dated reception. It was here that I thought 'oh great, what have I booked here' but I couldn't have been more wrong.

When booking I opted for a superior room for a little extra, and I would say this is essential. The standard rooms are in the old part of the hotel where reception is, and they looked very small, an dark and next to a tiny little pool.

The superior rooms are in a separate newly built block and are big, immaculatley clean, and very modern looking. They are beautiful, and the ones shown when advertising the hotel.

Rooms were cleaned everyday, an the hotel and pool areas are always spotless and clean.

Only downside to this hotel is the food. It's very continental and not very good for children or people picky with food. No English food at all, but all of the other nationalities seemed to eat it ok.

Would definatley come back again, best hotel i have stayed in for a very long time.

We spent 2 weeks in this hotel from the 4th to 18th September.
We had a superior room overlooking the pool area, with all creature comforts at hand.
You would be hard put on to find a more cleaner and friendlier accommodation.

The location of the hotel was perfect. The centre is a just few minutes walk away, as is the beach. But, you don't get the noise.

We had a late flight back home, but were able to keep our room for a few hours longer on our departure day, at no extra cost. Even though the hotel was fully booked.

While the meals appear a bit mundane, nobody has to go hungry.

The weekly evening entertainment is limited, but pretty good for the range of guests.
And if you're a fitness freak, the pool activities in the morning will keep you occupied.

For the (would be) cooks, they even provide cookery classes.

The snack- and pool bar provide the necessary. No good for weight watchers though :-)

All in all, a memorable first visit to Crete, and worth a return visit.

Hope this review helps.

Room Tip: A Superior room is well worth the extra cost.
