“Delo House and the surrounding of real Indian nature”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 December 2008

Kalimpong is on the border of West Bengal.

It is the last town before we enter Sikkim.

Although distances are not as large as most other areas in India. The cab drivers are always up to take you for a ride on the fare.

Unlike Ladhak where taxi fares are monitored. Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Sikkim are completely run by individual taxi drivers and small associations which over charge tourists.

You can book a cab only in the convenience of the association and not based on any set timing. So until you are sitting in a cab you will never know if your booking is done or not!

But the sights of Kalimpong like the Delo House is a must see. Its a true walk in the clouds. This is a plateau surrounded by mountains and is the only place where you get a 360 view of the mountains and rivers in the valley!

A true depiction of Nature and a perfect photo op.

“Kalimpong Cactus Gardens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2008

Kalimpong: This is the sleepy town, close to Darjeeling in West Bengal. Traditionally known as retirement destination. Though Darjeeling is packed with tourists kalimpong is low in activity and thus offer a peaceful and calm vacation.

The town with rich flora, view of peaks and valleys all around, is great place to spend a week in leisure. Have some decent hotel, with a window viewing the peaks of Himalayas, and enjoy the special tea of Darjeeling quality.

The Cactus Garden developed by private enthusiasts is worth seeing. I was surprised to see various flowers of Cactus, unbelievable. They stand from ground level to even 2 to 3 meters height. Cactus is traditionally grown in arid, dry and tropical areas, but with so cool weather of this place, one should appreciate the efforts of developers to maintain the 'Cactus Garden'. See the enclosed photograph, with me standing by the side of tall Cactus. Three cheers to the gardeners.

Other place not to miss is Dr. Graham's school and other buildings and Church, more than a century old, with traditional architecture.........
