Firstly, this hotel was located quite near to Puri Railway Station and we reached to the property within a snap. It was also a minute walk from the beach. The hotel was located in a mostly unexplored side of the beach so the surroundings were very clean and far off the main beach which has now turned into a disaster. However the con about the location is that it is far off the main markets and restaurants and one must take auto rickshaw to Swargadwar for accessing the local markets and restaurants.
The hotel is newly constructed and has barely completed 3 years, so one can expect very nice finishing and modern amenities. They have a variety of rooms to choose from however there are two main categories, one is beach facing which is obviously more pricey for the reason and another is pool facing which has partial view of the beach but most of the view is blocked by their own building.
Rooms are big and spacious, nice couch and big centre table provided inside. Beds are big enough to accommodate two adults comfortably. Pillows and linens were in good shape. The mini bar was quite useless though which only consisted of two or three items at max. The television inside was just functional with poor picture quality. Air Conditioner inside was less efficient in cooling such a large room. Bathroom was also quite spacious with modern fittings.
Talking about room service, it was kind of a mixed bag. The staff were efficient in responding when asked for a service but it was somewhat sluggish. For instance, they leave the leftover food and plates uncollected outside the rooms for the whole day. Also they do not replenish the tea/coffee sachet and toothpastes on their own. Other than these issues, the service was good.
Food was indeed very good. Right from Chinese to North Indian, it was professional. The breakfast buffet could have been better, however it was complementary so not too much to expect from there. Dinner and Lunch both were a-la-carte and had North Indian, Chinese and Continental menu to choose from. Pricing was reasonable and not sky touching. Quantity was somewhat good and overall okay if one is not too hungry.
The hotel does have a small swimming pool which is just 4 feet deep but nice enough and well maintained throughout the day. There is also a travel desk but the travel agency is very costly and charges much higher than normal rate.
Overall, we had a nice and comfortable stay at Jamindar's Palace. This is one place to look out for if you are visiting Puri. Far off the crowded place, this place is a apt for those who want a relaxing weekend at Puri.
