“Shillong- heaven in the clouds”
Reviewed 20 October 2008

Overview of the destination
Shillong is one of the best hill stations I have visited till now- really 'home of the clouds' in the true sense of the term. Our Shillong tour got a different flavour as we luckily met with Mr Pradip Modak-the best Govt guide & taxi-driver since years. He is so honest, loves to portrait his motherland to the visitors, without any time limit until we are satisfied. We could see many remote rarely explored places bcos of him.His contact no is [--]. I would be happy to suggest the visitors- enjoy real Shillong with him. Just call him before u reach Shillong. Best time to visit between end of Sept to March.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Besides site seeing in Shillong town go for daily excursions by taxi to well known places like Cherapunji, Mawsinram, Northiang, Mynenglong. According to Shillong tourism there are 5-8 sites in each place, to be visited within stipulated 6-8hours by taxi, and price is prefixed. Check with the tourism office or the same list ideally should be present with each tour taxi. Otherwise taxi-drivers can claim more money or even less but they will not show all sites. Luckily with Pradip-da we could visit each place for all the day beyond the stipulated time-bound & even experienced the drive through himalayan deep forest amidst rain.....amazing thrill.

Activities & things to do
Those who are nature-lover its good to enjoy scenic beauty on basis of daily excursions by taxi. D1: Site seeing in Shillong, D2: Cherapunji-Mokodok view point, Wakaba falls, RKMission, Nohkalikai falls, Seven sister falls, Mawasmai cave, Kohrama stone & falls at Shella road, Thanrang park, D3: Mawsinram-Mawflang dam,Sacred forest, Jakhrem hot spring, Step falls, Mawjbuyn cave(natural shivlinga), D4: Northiang-Jayanti Sridevi (one of the 51 pithasthan of Ma Parvati), Rock garden, Thalasken lake, D5: Mynenglong-the Spectacular village itself, Tree house, Root bridge and Reya falls, Dawki, Tambil Bangladesh border.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
Finally its nice to stay at Umium lake resort for one/two days, the beauty of the lake is far better than the much hyped Dal-lake in Srinagar. Prior booking is a must for that resort. Enjoy the unspoiled nature to the fullest extent in Shillong.
