Royal Heritage Tripura Castle is actually the state residence of the (now) Govt of Tripura, set atop Malki hill near Dhankheti. Out of the hustle and modern cosmopolitan Shillong, the setting takes you back over half a century - from the horse-shoe shaped entrance, to the period architecture, maintained well, and the furnishings as well. The staff could certainly do with a bit of grooming. The restaurant is small, but can cater to the residents. Not much frequented as a diner by the localites. The food is way above the average that one sees in Indian Restaurants. A large portion of the menu is dedicated to ethnic food styles of the orient. Cooking is quite authentic, and not "Indianised". Well worth a visit, even for a dinner out.
