Since childhood I am visiting this Hotel. At first I stayed in this Hotel during May 1984. I still remember those days playing outside in red sand. Staying in this hotel, re-energizes myself and it makes me nostalgic indeed. Easy access to Louisa, Sunset and Charlotte Lake makes staying in hotel more comfortable. Complete peace of mind.

[5:57 PM, 9/8/2019] Priyanshu Saxena: I recently stayed in this hotel with friends in October. The location of the hotel is good. It is about 3 kms from Dasturi Point, but once you get to the hotel, everything is nearby. The Matheran Market is only a kilometre away, and the major tourist points like Louiza Point, Charlotte Lake etc are also at a manageable distance.
Coming to the food, we had taken an all-meals package, and I would recommend you doing the same since finding good restaurants in Matheran can be a huge task! The food was amazing! The staff is so polite and they were so thoughtful about the variety of food here. We stayed for 2 days and had almost 5 meals here, and not even one dish was repeated! They freshly cook the food, and I really mean 'freshly'! I mean, I had freshly prepared bhakarwadi for the first time here! The food is pure vegetarian, but trust me you would love it even if you are a hardcore non-vegetarian like me.
The rooms are okayish, not great. We stayed in Regal Cottage (which is nowhere like a Cottage!). Also, at some points in the hotel, the wifi network is not available. The dish cable network is also quite intermittent. Since you have nowhere to go out in Matheran after 5-6 pm, these things do matter.
Overall, it was a nice stay and I would recommend the place, because it ticks two major aspects - Food and Location!

Room tip: I recommend you visit the hotel, see the rooms and then book! They give a good tour of the available rooms.

location good, rooms dark, restaurant service worst, ameneties almost nil, just stay and go, swimming pool too chlorinated, badminton court ok, wifi not in room only in reception, natural air good is the only good part which is good everywhere in matheran i think, the worst part was restaurant- food shortage always , just eat and go attitude

Room tip: check personally and choose, dont beleive in photos

1. Rooms - opt for new ones. All new ones are well-appointed. Possibly the only difference between pool side Villa and Room is of ceiling height. All new rooms have an AC, refrigerator, TV and outdoor seating.

2. Food - Freshly made, lot of variety and not repeated. Don't expect 5-star like buffet experience but the staff is very sincere. Thalis are very good, especially for Gujaratis. They have room service too and a decent range of fast food, munchings and main course items.

3. Activities - Pool is decent and so is the baddy court. Other stuff like TT and pool are poorly maintained. There's carrom too and housie and juggler on weekends.
They provide Baddy and cricket bat. There's a decent library too.

4. Monkeys - are all over the place. At times in the pool too if empty :-(

5. WiFi is available only near reception.

6. Liquor - The hotel doesn't serve but you can get your own stuff. There's Pramod Bar in the market too that has the basic stuff. Room has good refrigerator and ice, etc

Most hotels in Matheran aren't too well-maintained and posh. So Regal does offer a reasonably good experience!
