We have been to Hotel Woodsland about a year ago. Its an extraordinary hotel not in terms of Luxary but in terms of peace, and calm surrounding. Rooms are very spacious & even the bathroom gives you enough space to move & are clean.. Pure veg food.. The food is simple but very tasty. Its a place you can go along with your family and parents because decent family visit there. People who have been there seems were not the first time visitors ... There first two rooms are very big with a very different look there is a stares within the room wich will connect it to the 2nd floor. .. Sply good if a joint family is going for a family get together... Its a typical parsi hotel.. very spacious ... good for someone who wants to come out of his 1BHK life style.. Else there are many 1BHK's available in matheran... its little away from the market that's the real beauty of this place. So its makes it less crowded. .. After been to this place cant think of any other place in matheran so i am going back to woodsland once again this weekend along with my sister & brotherinlaw.. Staff's are very friendly & treat you like family. Thomas uncle who's the manager there is also very cooparative. Price wise its value for money. Little bit of extra cleaneness sply bedsheets & pillow covers will make it will make it more perfect.

Room tip: A basic travel tip for ever, and it works - Always be polite with staff's. Try to shell off 20% of the Tip at the first moment only. Give them respect, rest be rest assured they will go out of way to make your holiday an extraordinary moment of life.

Good things first: The food is awesome and the staff is very helpful, prompt and polite. Location is really awesome and it becomes beautiful in monsoon. These things actually absorbed a lot of bad experience in Hotel Woodlands Matheran. We had to deal with really bad, dirty, ragged and smelly pillows, bed-sheets, and towels. The hotel management should sort out these things, as we did not get the value for our money.

if u r looking to go out of city , but budget is an issue...this bunglow fits well in one's pocket
food is home like
no frills hotel
one who loves forest feel plus monkeys , dogs
negative point :bit far from main market , but the 10 min walk is quite scenic n serene but one has to return to hotel before sunset , as roads are not well lighted plus no sign boards.
way back can be bit tricky.

Woodlands Hotel is situated in the middle of dense woods of Matheran and is a favorite resort for me. It is a charming colonial-style hotel with a homely atmosphere & food. It is close to, (probably a ten minutes walk) the railway station and 30-35 minutes walk from the Matheran taxi stand. The food is exquisite and simple. The hotel offers excellent games for little children, all this at a very affordable prices. Great stay for a great leisure trip.

Location is great, peaceful and calm. At 1k per head including meals, its a steal especially on Christmas as all others were quoting 5 digit figures. Badminton court and a nice tt table are great as well. Food is tasty.

Downsides - Not great shakes when it comes to cleanliness; rooftop room stairs are too narrow and with monkey poo on it, very difficult to walk on without stepping on it; one dining room and no room service; but the worst thing is that only cash payment accepted and matheran has just 1 atm, which if not working would be a big problem.
