Silky Oaks lodge was towards the end of a fabulous trip in NZ and Australia as a second honeymoon planned for us by DesigNZ on Travel. We wanted diversity in our trip and as part of that were keen to see the rainforests of North Queensland, so our stay at Silky Oaks was pefect being amongst the trees in our own perfectly formed tree house, Staff were freindly and helful in helping us get the best of our stay, we ate in on a couple of nights and the meals were very good, walks in the rainforest were a highlight and we enjoyed the nearby Mossman Gorge and learning from our Aboriginal guide.

Wow...from the moment we arrived at Silky Oaks to the moment we left, we loved our stay here!

We arrived to a champagne cocktail in the bar that overlooks the Mossman River which is an incredible setting with great views and lots of wildlife to enjoy.

Our room was such luxury with a comfortable bed, lovely big bathroom and private balcony with our own hammock. It was such a nice touch that scented candles were lit around the lodge every night as part of the turn down service.

The food was amazing although the evening menu was quite limited however this was fine for us as we only stayed for 2 nights. The a-la-carte breakfast was amazing with lots of choice and unlimited fruit, coffees, cereals etc to go with it!

One of the loveliest memories for me was doing yoga each morning overlooking the river...such a great way to start the day and unwind! We also went on one of the self-guided walks which was great (make sure you pack some trainers!) There are also some guided walks and activities, however, it rained very heavily whilst we were on our stay so these were not available!

Finally, the staff were great and extremely friendly and helpful!

We would highly recommend this luxury rainforest retreat!!

This place is a must if you are in northern Queensland. Having spent 3 weeks travelling around in great weather we were nervous to head here as our last stop in our honeymoon. How we need not have troubled ourselves.

It is just over an hour from Cairns, and you feel like you are miles from anything. He photos do not do it justice. It is simply breathtaking.

The warmest and most genuine greeting of our trip from Peter, with a delicious cocktail overlooking the river; whilst high up in the trees, was a great start. He suggested this was the perfect place for us to wind down - no wifi in rooms, no Tv in room, lots of lovely board games and books on the area, a swim in the billabong, a hike.... whatever we fancied.

We were pleased we swam and canoed on the first day as that evening there was the most incredible downpour - having worried about rain we are so pleased we had some, it is a rainforest after all - and the river was out of bounds the next day.

We took a hike the next day to Fig Tree Rapids which was challenging as it was still very wet, and the path not so obvious in places, but the little guide book they give you kept us on track. Really worth doing and we glad we experienced this rather than going into town. Do heed their warning of wearing decent footwear- at times it is quite treacherous. There is the option to bring a picnic with you also which the lodge will prepare, but we were so stuffed from a delicious breakfast that we didn't do so. There is a salt water pool near the main lodge so we lay there after the walk under the dappled light and swigged down a much deserved beer.

The food is very good. We ate there both evenings and Paul the sommelier has an excellent knowledge of Australian wines so we partook in a few bottles over our stay.

Our room was wonderful, number 27 with a day bed on the balcony, well maintained, comfy bed and nice touches of excellent coffee and big cups. All felt very homely.

The service is excellent across the property, we are so pleased we came up here and would return here next time we come to Australia. Top notch.

A fantastic hotel where you can enjoy good food and the rainforest. Beautiful tree houses and friendly staff, love the hammock on the balcony! I only gave it 4 out of 5 because there was no mini bar and the delivery charge for room service was $25.00!

After 35 hours travel time from the United States, we arrived at Silky Oaks and were greeted warmly by Peter with a tour of the lodge and refreshing cocktail. We were busy with tours during the full two days we were at the lodge, but ate each breakfast and dinner at the lodge which were wonderful! We spent time lounging in the "family room", used the laundry facilities after a dusty ATV trip, and swam in the pool. Both Lashane in the restaurant and Paul in the bar were extremely helpful and made our experience even better. The rooms were beautiful and such a wonderful introduction to Australia. When we came back from dinner the first night all of the lanterns and candles were all lit in the room and patio and it was incredibly romantic. We had a wonderful time in the rainforest and would definitely recommend a stay at Silky Oaks.

Room Tip: We had a view of the river from our Billabong and treehouse rooms. Close to the main lodge and pool.
