The location is amazing - the beautiful timber house is set high on a hill surrounded by tropical rainforest with a spectacular view of the divine beach at Cow Bay.
This is a great family friendly, lovingly restored Queenslander with three comfortable bedrooms and a large ocean facing verranda with hot tub.
The tastefully decorated house is well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay in this magnificent area.
Daintree Magic is perfect for a weekend getaway and is a place we'd love to return to again and again.
We spent a perfect few days at Daintree magic. The house was spotless and we'll provisioned. We enjoyed the remoteness and opportunity to immerse ourselves in the rainforest. The location was fabulous with a short drive to the beach. Communication with the owner was also much appreciated.
Our experience at Daintree Magic was exceptional, right from booking until we left. The house is in the heart of the rainforest; an excellent location to explore all of the sites. The house is beautifully maintained, furnished, comfortable, and clean with plenty of room (we were 5 - parents with 3 adult children), and well stocked with cooking utensils and staples. The house is within walking distance to the beach, and the view from the balcony is lovely. It is reasonably priced, and real value. It is very clear that the owners truly respect the environment, and anyone who stays at Daintree Magic should also respect the house and the setting!
We stayed as a family of 4 with 2 young kids in August 2016 for 3 nights and absolutely loved Daintree Magic. It's difficult to beat sitting on the verandah in the middle of the rainforest and looking out over the coral sea as the sun goes down. At night it's also magical. There are no properties anywhere in the vicinity and it really feels like you are in the middle of untouched wilderness. We saw a cassowary on the road by the house a couple of times.
The house is spotless and well equipped and the owners obviously take great pride in it. Kate was very helpful and sent us the ferry tickets ahead of the trip.
For us there were no downsides, but yes, it is isolated and there is a steep drive. We found no problem with the drive in a rented commodore. We had no issues with using the jacuzzi or electricity running out and the weather was pretty rainy when we visited.
Cow Bay beach is beautiful and a short walk away (although watch out for crocs!). Cow Bay hotel nearby was good for dinner but we loved eating in on the verandah. Best to stock up on supplies at a supermarket before you cross the river though as the small shops north of the river don't have much variety.
We (3 ladies) booked accommodation for 7 nights to unwind and explore Northern Qld.
It is a lovely, clean 3-bedroom house in a serene tropical forest with beautiful views over the ocean and a short 10-15 min walk to the lovely beach. House has everything supplied including very clean linen, plenty of bath/hand towels, and kitchen utensils.
However, property has its limitations, which need to be taken into consideration when booked (these were not mentioned anywhere on the holiday-house web-site).
1. Getting there. While driving along Penda Close there is no signage of the property at all, which makes it hard to find it the darkness. The driveway to the property is very steep, and we found it bit dangerous to drive on, especially in wet condition and in a low-clearance sedan.
Four-wheel drive car (or al least a car with a higher clearance) is a necessity, and we believe should be mentioned.
2. Amenities. Advertised as having TV, DVD, spa is not a reality, as it is run on solar power. TV/DVD can be only be used 1 hour a day, otherwise you are risking to be left without electricity. When it was overcast, we were faced with the power cut off in a middle of the evening while being out all day. That meant no light, or even water in the house (showers or toilets could not be used).
With no usage of power at all, were instructed to start a generator, which is behind the house in some shed. We could not start it, and had to call the owner to start it for us, being able to get in contact with her next day only.
It is very unpleasant to find yourself in complete darkness in a forest with no neighbour to ask for help.
Even though at the time of booking we’ve been told that the house has satellite Internet, we’ve found out that it has very limited download.
Closest reception for non-Telstra customers is an Alexandra lookout some 10 or so km from a property.
Combined bathroom/toilet outside the house with entrance from the back deck was a surprise and can be quite an adventure at night-time.
The property is very isolated (about 4 km away from Cow Bay). We had an unpleasant experience with youths affected by drugs trying to break into the property in the middle of the night and spending part of the night in our bathroom. The local police only arrived the next morning. Luckily nothing bad happened, but we were quite scared being in the middle of nowhere in a forest, and very slow local police response to our numerous phone calls.
