In all fairnesss, there are 3 dwellings in total (therefore can't comment on the new purpose-built cabins), we stayed in the original historic Guest House. The original open fireplace was a dismal disappointment, very minimal heat was generated (month of June). We tried everything we could, but we froze. The smell from the smoke saturated our clothes and hair. Despite the fireplace doing its' thing, I could breath fog from my mouth in most parts of the house, it was that damn cold. Early on the first night I sought sanctuary in the bed with it's electric blanket. By the second night I was again contemplating going to bed at 8:00pm and reading to escape the cold, but we thought "lets go home and get warm". The concept of the original old Guest House is a good one, and maybe in the warmer months we would have been ok. The owner assured us that we are one of the rare guests to complain about the freezing cold (inside the house), but somehow I doubt this.
