Of the eighteen different places to stay during a whirlwind tour of the Uk in August, including hotels, clubs and B&Bs Laburham was the best. Val was the perfect host, full of local knowledge and so helpful, the ambience was great, the food terrific and the bed so comfortable. Ample car parking was a welcome bonus.

Another excellent stay at Laburnum House, this time it was for two nights allowing us to visit family and attend a friend's wedding. On our arrival we received the usual warm welcome from Val and got ourselves settled in to the 'Thirsk' room. The room itself was comfortable, clean and modern with wifi, a good sized television, tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water and a range of biscuits all available. The en suite included an excellent shower and complimentary toiletries. A wide range of breakfast options were also available with fruit, yogurt, cereal and cooked all on offer. During our stay we took full advantage of the location, both for quick visits to town and easy access to major roads for trips out. Val remains an excellent host who is keen to ensure that her guests enjoy their stay and is always willing to go the extra mile if necessary - this time is was helping us in our last minute search for button-hole flowers! Laburnum House definitely remains on our 'Highly Recommended' list.

We booked in for a night and stayed for 4. Would of stayed a week but was full. This B and B lived up to all the previous reviews on trip advisor
The welcome was warm and friendly and cal is such an optimistic person. We stayed in the Thirsk room very clean spacious and everything you needed. We needed our first breakfast at 6.15 and val just smiled and said no probs and don't worry I will knock you up at 5.30 just to make sure you don't sleep in
And failing that I will ring you
This helps you sleep well
We went to Whitby climbed up to the abbey and yes cal there are 199 steps
Guess we can say we followed in the steps of Bram Stokers (Dracula )
We bought delicious kippers from Fortunes Smokehouse and our best treat was to eat in the famous Magpie Cafe. But queue early
We then drove to Robin Hoods Bay a small fishing village five miles south of whitby
Got wonderful views and nice cafes
With a family friendly beach
During our stay we went to Harlow Carr Botanical Gardens near Harrogate and wow we went to Betty's Tea Room whilst there
Ayah arts Falls is a must too
All in all without the help of cal we would never of known about these wonderful places
Val also recommended
Fountains Abbey
Bolton Abbey
And York Minster and the Shambles
Laburnum Hpuse is on reach of all these
Will be back in 2016

We went to Thirsk to see where James Herriot, aka Alf Wight, lived. Staying at Laburnum House was a major bonus. Our room was large and furnished with the exact things a traveler wants, a great shower, a little table and lovely comfortable chairs. I also enjoyed the great view and comfortable feel of the house. It was only a few minutes from downtown and in a very quiet area.
Breakfast was great, with lots of lovely fresh fruit and made to order eggs and bacon.
We also received a free ride to a nearby park so we could see what Herriot called the most beautiful view in England. (I think he was right.)
It was the perfect spot to stay, and I also think it was a bargain, especially for how lovely it was. Val, the owner, and her partner made out stay a wonderful part of our stay in the UK.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Thirsk room because it had a great shower and lovely view.
