The Stone Centre has a very good cafe with far-reaching views, and a nice outside play area for children. Parents can sit on the cafe terrace overlooking the playground. The trail (can buy a leaflet at a small cost) is interesting, with features and sculptures along the way to look out for. Panning is offered at £3, and is good fun - guaranteed 'gems'! There is a small but interesting exhibition, and shop selling mineral associated items at reasonable cost. Honesty box car park at just £1 for a half day.

we have been frequent visitors over a few years with a family of children from young to teen. The walks are lovely and interesting but have seen a decline in the general upkeep of the walks. Some difficulty in seeing many of the fossil beds with areas closed off and over run with moss and weeds.
Some maintenance is noted and as its a huge site i guess its not an easy task but i think alot more should be done for up keep in main fossil attraction areas as young kids get frustrated by not being able to see them clearly now.
The area is great as an outdoors activity with gem stone panning which we've done every year in the summer but again this now needs to be refilled.
The gastro pod cafe has improved the site and is clean and well presented. Lovely views from the balcony area.
playground area is a big improvement.
For us the thing that now lets this attraction down is the exhibition area...not good guys...come on you can do soooooo much better. Posters are boring for kids...they like things to see and touch..maybe kid friendly talks and experiments in school hols time?????
The shop has died a death..not a patch on its former self. Shelves are mostly bare and still lack of products a month later. This shop used to hold loads if fossil samples gem stones and associated goods youd expect to find in this attraction. Come on guys please...your title is THE NATIONAL STONE CENTRE as customer's we'd expect to see this shop brimming with tempting stone goodies.
I have faith you'll sort the shop soon and we'll be back as its one of our favourite places to visit.

This is free to enter, with an honesty box for the car park. The geo trail leaflet cost £1, but you could do it without. We found it really interesting, and the millennium wall made in all the different dry walling styles from around Britain was fascinating. We didn't use the cafe, but it looked good.

The centre is in pleasant surroundings. The trail is not very long but is quite informative. The display showing various stone wall constructions from different areas in Britain is particularly good.

We've visited the Gastro Pod on many occasions and have always enjoyed the experience. The setting is terrific, it's very close to the High Peak Trail, not far from the 6.1 bus route and there's a large car park, so accessibility is good.

The food is wholesome and served by pleasant , helpful staff.

Plan your walk arounf the Gastro Pod, or make this your destination.
