“Value for money - plenty of character and like a Tardis inside"”

18 of us stayed here after Christmas and upto New Year 2016. There were a mixture of adults and teenagers. We booked the property because it could cater and accomodate a group of our size. We go away each New Year and have difficulty finding places as they are so expensive at this time over Christmas and New Year. The best thing about the place is that its comfortable and you can sit 20 on sofa's which is something you dont get at most places of this size. eg Most Youth hostels that hold 30 only have comfy chairs for about 15 as they think not everyone will use them at the same time. There is also a second lounge, again with sofa's for anyone that wants a bit more peace. The place is like a labrynth with little rooms everywhere and there is character as well with the old Pulpit and well etc.
Its funny to see other reviews and whilst this is their experience, if you are cold due to an open fire, then light it. It adds to the atmosphere and is a wood burner, not an open fire. There was even wood supplied to have a fire which again is not provided in lots of establishments.
Regarding the equipment, Yes its a bit of a mix but the kitchen was very well equiped. We cooked a full roast for 18 and other meals and it was fine. The large table that will sit 18-20 is immediately outside the kitchen which is on a sort of mezzanine overlooking the main lounge. In fact if you did have to keep your eye on younger children its ideal as you can see down to them if they were in the main lounge.
The area is brilliant with plenty of shopping in Belper, all the mills to visit and Matlock etc as well. You are not far from Derby if you want somewhere bigger or the villages of the Peak District if you want somewhere smaller. If you like the Cinema, there a great one in Belper. Its only got one screen so book but it has really comfy seating, places to place your Mug of coffee/chocolate which they let you take in and the picture/sound is A1.

I am trying to give a realistic review and look, whilst there may be some cobwebs and stuff, its a huge place and a bit different. The settee's may have seen better days but we found them clean and very comfy. We had to book for the week as it was over New Year but could only stay 4 nights due to work etc but this proves that it is good value for money. We are not a group with loads of money but still thought it worth paying the weeks price for 4 days. If we had more money we would go somewhere which was immaculate etc but You get what you get pay for and you certainly get a lot at Ebenezer Chapel for what you pay.
The bathrooms are plentifull and adequate. I would favour, not having the coin operated electricity but it does say this is this case in the information. On the point of correspondence and information, Mrs WAYNE kept us updated and informed. The key pick up was simple as was the refuse collection. A bonus is the WIFI which worked well although the phone signal was hit and miss. There were TV's in some rooms but remember to turn on the aerial amplifier in the lounge to get a signal.
Note there is a good housekeeping payment which is returned promptly if you don't lose any towels or damage anything etc. We tried to leave the place reasonably tidy and received ours back fully.

There are two great pubs near by, one attached and the Holly Bush 200 metres down the lane left out the front door. Both are old fashioned serving real ales and had fires roaring.

“Disappointing”

Stayed here with a group of friends, there is plenty of space for a large party but the accommodation left a lot to be desired. Guests expect more of self-catering properties these days. The place smelt musty, carpets were not clean, decor and furniture of a poor standard. The kitchen surfaces were dirty, as was the floor. The newer bathrooms were much better and if everything had been to that standard and clean, it would have been fine. Having read some of the reviews, I don't agree that all this adds to the chapel's charm. It is a lovely building in a good location but seriously in need of updating and a deep clean. Sorry!

“Clean, comfortable and great for our group of 22”
Reviewed 27 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

This was a birthday celebration and had people aged from 1 to 80. The chapel is a good size with plenty of room. The kitchen has all the amenities you would need, with a large dining area that could fit us all around the table. The building has plenty of character being an old chapel but was clean and comfortable with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms to cater for all our needs. It was a good place for our get together and good value for money. The owners were very accommodating and we enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

“Absolutely filthy!”

Came here for Easter. Bathrooms looked good from a distance but webs everywhere. Every other plate was vile. The power meter took coins which is now not allowed so will be investigating at work (work for a utility company), so have to add a lot of cash on top of the weekend for electricity!

I was a little dismayed to read this review as the previous guests to this one had written such a lovely write up and stated how they had enjoyed their stay at the Ebenezer Chapel.
Also the person who booked the chapel for this Easter week end had emailed me and said 'We had a lovely stay at the Ebenezer Chapel over the Easter weekend' and went onto to say that they had left some belongings at the chapel, which have since been returned, and I have spoken to him recently and he has repeated his satisfaction with his Easter holiday stay.
The chapel does have an electricity meter, which is fully mentioned in the web site description, and over a week end works out at approximately 50 pence per person.

“Large comfortable house, perfect for our annual family gathering.”

It's difficult to find affordable accommodation for 20 people and Ebenezer Chapel was perfect for our needs. It is large and comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped with good working surfaces. The lounge has plenty of seating for everyone and the log fire made it very cosy. The house suited the needs of everyone in the party ages ranging from 3 months to 74. We have an annual family gathering and have stayed in places a lot more expensive which were not as comfortable. Yes when we arrived we were a bit concerned about parking but had no problems over the weekend. Nice pubs in the area. The Holly Bush worth walking up to. The King Wiĺliiam next door also very cosy. We didn't eat out. Nice children's play area 2 minutes away and a Wacky Warehouse across the road. Tesco delivered to the house. Everyone wants to return next year. So ill be making another booking.
