“Perfect mini-break”
Reviewed 22 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We went for a last-minute short break at Hardknott Cottage, which was the only one-bedroom cottage we hadn't stayed in at Bridge End. We weren't disappointed - like the other cottages, it's clean, comfortable, well-equipped and stunningly located by Whillan Beck at the foot of the Boot fells. There's a gorgeous large, shared, back garden, complete with furniture, bbq equipment and access to the beck. We were joined in the garden by a few sheep to ensure we had the full rural experience!

The cottage is brilliantly located for walks right from the door, be they gentle strolls along the nearby river Esk, or more challenging hikes up Scafell, or something in between. The west Cumbrian coast is within easy reach by car, and there are two pubs within a few hundred yards.

As with the other one-bed cottages at Bridge End, this probably isn't ideal for very tall people, and the parking area can be a bit tight, but nonetheless i wouldn't hesitate to recommend all the one-bed cottages - I've been back several times now, and am likely to continue doing so, unless I get a dog! (The cottages aren't pet-friendly!)

Thanks once again to Greg and team for a marvellous mini-break.

Liked best: The mezzanine bedroom complete with velux, providing a great view of the fells
Liked least: The front door lintel is a little low, so if you're tall, you need to watch out you don't concuss yourself on the way in/out!

“Nice”
Reviewed 23 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Great, remote location, hidden away within the Lake District. Ideal for a quiet getaway from the city. A beautiful spot with an amazing waterfall nearby. The cottage itself was expensive, but cute, well looked after, and a nice base to have as you plot your adventures.

Management Response

I'm sorry you found our cottage expensive. It is a Grade 2 Listed historic cottage so the purchase and maintenance are expensive, plus your visit over Easter is when prices rise across the holiday sector. It is also best to book for a whole week rather than a short break over the Easter weekend.
