Very very large resort with lots to see & do. The beach is amazing, spa was great, rooms clean & everyone was friendly & helpful.

Sergio hosted a few different events I went to, including karaoke idol. He is full of energy & life and gets everyone smiling & involved. He was one of my favorite parts of the resort. He created fun daily.

Lorenzo was always a friendly face.

I loved this resort but I could do without the constant asking about swimming with the Dolphins or joining the VIP club. It put a bad taste in my mouth. When I did go on the VIP tour & did not purchase I was told by Alex that, "I had wasted his time & didn't I realize he was on commission!"

I appreciated the carts that drove you from place to place but did not like waiting for a ride from the beach to the hotel for 20 minutes in the blistering sun each time.

As beautiful as this resort is, I found it too far from Playa del Carmen. If just sticking to your resort is the way you like to vacation then I highly recommend this resort. If you like to go do & see lots, something closer to Playa might be a better choice.

Shopping in Playa, taking a scooter around Cozumel for a day & going to Xcaret were my favorite things to do. I can't wait to go back to the Riviera Maya.

Having previously stayed in the Tulum section of this resort, we know how wonderful it is and we decided to go back yet again. We decided to stay in the Coba section this time because it was just a little cheaper and we hadn't tried that section yet. The service and grounds were as perfect as at the Tulum section but having to take a trolly to the beach was a pain in the butt especially because we found we preferred the Tulum beach over the Coba beach. It is a long stretch with open ocean, whereas Coba's has been kind of divided up into ocean pools, and the having to travel back and forth was a pain especially if you forgot something you needed in your room.

Regardless of the beach, it was everything we expected from the Gran Bahia. The food was excellent, the staff were so friendly and helpful and the grounds are immaculate. The evening entertainment was so fun to watch and if you just wanted to have a quiet drink you could do that too.

We only took in the one al carte - The Don Paublo, but the food was fantastic and the service was exemplary.

Having stayed at both the Tulum and the the Coba I can highly recommend both. If you are a beach person I would stay at the Tulum but if you are pool lounger, this is the resort for you!

We WILL be back just as soon as we can!!

Just got back yesterday from this beautiful hotel!
I must say that for the price we paid we cannot complain!
Food was good overall. The last day, I was a bit tired of the buffet but that still managed to find something. For our à la cartes, we chose the portofino, Le gourmet and the mikado. They were all good but I prefered the portofino. We also made our reservations prior to going with Felix.

The property is really big but with the karts passing frequently, it was really easy to get around. The grounds are very clean and well kept. The staff is always working to ensure that everything is well maintained. We also found the staff very helpfull and friendly.

The room was nice and clean but it did smell a bit humid. This is to be expected in a humid climate. It didn't bother us too much.

As for the beach, this was disapointing for us. It isn't very nice. We found the Coba section to be the best but you had to arrive early to get a spot (around 8:30) or else you would be stuck going further down and having a very rocky beach. We did go to the Akumal public beach (not on the resort) wich is about 5 min drive from the hotel and it was very nice.

There was always something to do on the resort and after spending a week there, we feel like we didn't get to see everything that it offers since there is so much!

Overall, I would go back because you get a very good value for what you pay for. But for our next vacation, we would really like something very luxurious and 18+ because it sometimes gets anoying hearing kids screaming and crying

THE COBA... (one of 3 in location all same group and share bars, facilities etc)
we have just had 2 weeks there and this was our experience ...your experience or needs may be different but the value comes in information to help you make decisions or ask questions.
My points made below ...check with hotel before you go ..get latest info. Its just our experience and thoughts.

superb location , staff outstanding. Lots of restaurants and bars....Brazilian and Japanese restaurants the very best ..just first class food and service.(book the minute you arrive or even before you go if that is possible as they get booked up quickly ...the Med. restaurant was not to our liking..service a bit unsettling rushed and a bit like a canteen in speed! Buffet restaurants were fine.
Beach has plenty sunbeds and is well looked after.

couple of improvements needed /points for information.

tough to get a sunbed by any of the pools after about 0830 ..hotel should invest in more after all they are just cheap plastic and can be stacked if not in use. Hotel does have notices saying do not reserve sunbeds but this is ignored and not enforced as far as we could see
Takes the strain away and you can relax if you know a sunbed is no issue.

Dress code in restaurants....hotel does state there is one, but we saw no evidence of this being enforced when we were there.. Now nothing wrong in eating in shorts etc ,,,,but I read the dress code before I went and packed collared shirts and long trousers. No Need really as far as I could see in the restaurants even in the eveniing.Could have saved a few Kilos luggage
One night in the buffett restaurant a group of men (one bare chested and shorts ) were allowed in and served...maybe not 5 star or in line with dress code?

so if you have a code ...make it happen ...otherwise scrap the dress code and let people dress as they wish ..but do make a decision please.

great hotel ..will be back...as I said the staff, location and rooms were superb.

Room Tip: book a junior suite close to main lobby

Short and sweet... buffet were very good, but a lot of the time the food was just semi warm and a lot of the time the food trays were empty... a la carte were fabulous, some of the best I've been too...staff were great...drinks were very good and top shelf not hard to find...we were in the Royal Golden section and were very pleased with room location (building 24B)...Yes it is a very big resort but the Akumal section is a very easy walk and transportation is readily available if needed. A definite "would visit again" property!!
