This hotel is gorgeous and like paradise. The staff work very hard to keep it at a high standard and are really friendly. We are from UK and visited this resort last year but wanted to return and we were not disappointed. We were not happy with our room at first because it was on the ground floor but the reception staff were only too happy to change it and they gave us a room that had a fabulous view of the dolphins! Excellent service!
The entertainment at this resort is excellent, the evening shows are great and there are fabulous kids shows. The animation team are great, especially Juan. He was so friendly, hardworking and an amazing dancer, he made our vacation enjoyable. Ivan is also really friendly and we loved playing mini golf with him!
The food is also great, don't believe everything you read. The buffet has so much choice and every night is different. The waiters are great, especially Bernard, he gave excellent service every day we saw him.
The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The only thing that could have been better were the beds. The mattresses were quite hard but the first room we were given had soft mattresses so maybe it was just that room. The tv wasn't great quality but then we just wanted to be outside in the sun enjoying the resort so it didn't matter.
The pools are wonderful and staff work hard to keep them clean. You can even learn to Scuba Dive in one of them!
It really is an excellent resort and if you are considering staying in the riviera maya area this place has everything you need and more. You are made to feel like family and it has become a home from home to us. We can't wait to visit again next year.

Room Tip: If you are not happy with your room ask politely and the staff will work hard to try and help you.

The entertainment team were fabulous especially Charlie and Miley they always went the extra mile everyday to ensure everyone had a good time. The staff throughout the complex were polite and gave excellent customer service. The complex had lots of entertainment for everyone.

The choice of restaurants is impressive and cater for ever taste. To help you get around this vast complex they have a very frequent golf buggy type service. You can choose a pool that suites you from toddler to adult only and lively family one in between. The grounds are kept very clean and in good condition.

We visited the Grand Bahia Príncipe from April 10-16. At first the size of the resort was somewhat overwhelming, but we quickly found our way around. We arrived at the resort slightly before check in, but after a quick phone call from the front desk to housekeeping to see if our room was ready, we were taken there by one of the trolleys right away.
Food and Drinks: There was a large variety of food to choose from in the buffet and there was always plenty of food available. We used all three of our a la carte reservations. We ate at the Mediteranneo restaurant at Coba and the Don Pablo and Tequila restaurants at Tulum. We enjoyed all of the restaurants but the Tequila restaurant was both our favourite food and atmosphere. There were rarely long lineups at the bars and most of the bartenders were very friendly. Our favourite was the self serve Pina Colada and Daiquiris near the pools.
Pools and beach: The beach was lovely. We split our time between the beach and the pool with the volleyball net. There was never a shortage of beach chairs. The hammocks under the palm trees near the pool were a great place to relax.
Room: We stayed on the bottom level of Villa 16. We found that it was a perfect distance from the pools/lobby/theatre/buffet area. The short walk kept us active while we were on vacation. We can't say enough about the housekeeping staff. Everyone was friendly and our room was super clean.
We enjoyed our stay at this fabulous resort and hope to plan a return trip for 2018.

Our first impression wasn't the greatest:

Overall the rooms are decent, but the bathrooms are terrible. We were first assigned to room 712, where the shower pressure was extremely weak, the water only reached lukewarm temperature, the drain was clogged, and water leaked onto the floor.

We complained and they offered us a new room that would be available the following day in villa number 2 with an ocean view and closer to the amenities which we appreciated. When we showed up to pick up the new room keys they had given that room away to someone else and moved our luggage to villa 16 room 1622 - that was infuriating as we ended up further away from where we wanted to be (712 was a better location), and didn't get what we were promised.

Then when we checked out that bathroom, it had hot water but the shower pressure was the same, and even more water leaks onto the floor out underneath the bathroom door. So we're using a towel to seal the space between the tub and the bottom of the shower door.

Not happy at all - because of the rooms and being jerked around we won't come back here again.

On a positive note, the air conditioning is working nicely and the mattress is very comfortable.

And the rest of our experience so far on day 4...

Property

The landscaping is pretty much immaculate.

Beaches/Swimming

The beach itself is nice, white sand and well maintained. But the swimming is terrible. They have these massive barriers that prevent the waves from coming in so you can only get out about waist high (at the deepest). You can navigate around them but it's a pain. You also need to tip toe around rocks whenever you go in the shallow area - ended up with scraped knees and stubbed toes.

One nice thing about the swimming is the colorful fish that swim around in the shallow water - the kids seem to really like that.

Drink Service

Is either non-existent (they have no one serving on the beach) or understaffed. On average we experienced a 10-15 person line up at any of the bars, with exception of the lobby bar which had servers. This is at no fault of the staff themselves as they for the most part furiously serving drinks, just simply not enough resources.

Food/Buffets/A la Carts

Good selection of food at both the buffets and for the a la carts. Also the quality is pretty good - we've had worse at a 5 star.

The problem again with the buffets is staffing. They have too many competing priorities. All the staff in the seating area are responsible for waiting tables, cleaning tables, and re-setting them between every meal. So at most times it's nearly impossible to get someone to top up your coffee, fill your water glass or get you a beer.

Staff

Friendly, courteous and hardworking.

First time to Mexico for three of us, myself, 16 & 20 yr old daughters hubby has been before.its a 10 hrs Flight. The hotel is 35 mins by coach from Cancun Airport, however, if you're not the first passengers to be dropped off, it can take over an hour to get there!
But well worth the wait, we were there from the 18 - 31. So the drive fro the main rd to the Resorts entrance was Spectacular, there's a Casino a mini market and lots more, thats just the entrance!!! Trees were decorated with Xmas lights & decorations, you could hear the relief of fellow passengers as we'd seen other resorts that weren't as stunning enroute Big smiles from Employees, the guys who drive your luggage to your apartments are hilarious & amazingly strong bringing your 20kg luggages, if you're up the stairs, they won't let you,( Do tip em handsomely! !! ) we had 1615 & 1616, generous size 2 king sized beds in each apartment, plus a sofa bed. Tv, coffee making facilities, Tea too. Good size bathroom, Remember not to flush loo paper, it goes in bin next to the loo!!!!
Complex is suitable for Everyone, There's different restaurants, we had to book asap( xmas! ) we did the Japanese & Mexican Fab-u-lous!!!! 24hr beach bar suited teens - upwards pm, but family friendly for any age!!!!
Enjoy the wildlife around the Complex and in main foodhall its amazing!!!!! Beach is fabulous not crowded, as folks congregate around the pool more??? Theres bars in close proximity on the Beach!!!! Staff are lovely, hard working, obliging and speak politely to you, that's rare in good resorts, one flaw you have to pay daily for a safe key in room, it's not a Coded one, so try not to lose it or its costly!!!! GO YOU WONT REGRET IT, ITS WORTH EVERY PENNY
