“The nicest place yet that we have stayed in Mexico”

The villa is unique with alcoves, balconies, private rooms with walkin showers and plenty large enough for the 3 couples, without renting the additional casita. We had the choice of dining and relaxing together, or we could find a space for our own privacy if we chose. Night sky viewing was beautiful from the top balcony. The villa itself offers its own privacy but close enough to feel safe and secure in the area of Akumal resort.
Darwin the groundskeeper was a great fountain of information about the area. He kept the villa grounds and pool immaculate. He has the uncanny ability to be present when we needed to ask a question, while working in the background quietly and barely noticeable. A very kind and helpful person. Rosa was also very sweet. She kept the place clean and came in everyday except Sunday. She changed towels daily, and sheets at least twice weekly. Rosa cooked a meal for us one night - grilled prawns, guacomole, salad, rice, beans and cheesecake at the villa. It was a huge hit with the gang. Both Rosa and Darwin looked after everything we needed and they really made our stay at the villa an extreme pleasure.
The villa location is great. A few doors down is a restaurant bar with happy hour every night - great food and drinks. Beach floor with swings, casual downstairs with more formal upstairs.
Halfmoon Bay is a 10 minute walk to some of the best snorkeling especially for the coral. Stunning. You will need water shoes. The beach is sandy, but the bay is coral.
In the other direction is another 10 minute walk to Akumal Bay - lovely sandy beach, but quite crowded. Pretty much gauranteed to see turtles. Do wear a life jacket to protect the bottom.
A quick ride on the bus - Collectivo towards Tulum 25 pesos and ask for Xcacel-Xcacelito. Excellent sandy private beach. It is a park and you are asked for a donation - we gave 25 pesos each. There is a cenote, but it was closed for construction when we were there. The beach alone was well worth the trip. There is a bathroom, but no other ammenities, so bring water, beverages and lunch as you will want to spend a few hours there.
Coba was the best ruins that we saw. To be able to actually climb the highest temple was a highlight of our trip. Because the whole area is so large you don't feel as crowded as somewhere such as Tulum.
Dos Ojos cenote was beautiful. We did our own trip, so didn't do the underground diving. We just snorkelled. The water is clear and the caves quite open so viewing is spectacular. We also snorkelled in the Yaku Lagoon and marvelled at the abundance of fish. The grounds are well done with several launching off spots.
The Mexican people are so friendly and accommdating and have a great sense of humour. We just had the best time, never feeling pressured, hassled or intimidated.
A couple of hints, if you arrive on Sunday - liquor sales are restricted. Keep change for the bus, Collectivo. It is about 30 pesos to Tulum. The Collectivos are air conditioned and comfy for trips under an hour. You can exchange your money to Pesos at the Akumal dive shop and they will arrange rental vehicles for you if you like. We shopped around and they were able to get the best deal for us. Very friendly staff. Also don't forget to stop at the Turtle cafe for homemade ice-cream and the best flat bread. They also have happy hour and are very generous with the tequila.
We will definitely return to this beautiful part of Mexico

“An unforgettable vacation at Casa Luna”

Casa Luna is a very special place, and is lovingly and proudly presented by a most delightful staff. The house, casita and grounds are beautifully maintained by Silvia and Luis. Silvia is an astoundingly great cook--the best meal we had for the entire trip was her menu #1--garlic shrimp, avocado soup, chile relleno, lime pie. She is gracious and kind and has a devilish sense of humor, which shines through despite my limited Spanish. Luis is a friendly, smiling, happy sort who is always ready to help. They make the house even more valuable.
The house is sprawling--with lots of decks, terraces, and lots of privacy. We enjoyed nightly sunsets from the west facing terrace attached to the third floor tower wet bar. Traditionally decorated, with lots of painted tiles and local art. Comfy beds, gorgeous bathrooms, nice bedding, immaculately kept up by Silvia during our stay. The neighbors have a very well fed cat, Gucho, who visits the patio at least once a day, and a social, polite and lovable dog, Lolita (great watchdog). As pet lovers, we enjoyed their visits. The villa is perfectly situated between Akumal town and HMB, easy walking to both areas. Great snorkeling just steps away, great restaurants in town, and (for me) world class cavern and cave diving at multiple sites nearby. We are already planning a return trip.
