Definitely pick the operation that has the bright colored pink and yellow signs (both businesses have the same looking logos) towards the back. This place is full of treed areas and benches to get you out of the sun.

Get there before the crowds. They have 3 palapas which are the thatched roof huts for rent for $20. GET ONE! These are so cool. Full rooms with hammocks and tables and chairs and private entry steps into the lagoon. I could have stayed there all day, and basically did.

You don't need a tour and can do this without a guide. Rent their snorkeling equipment or bring your own. Lots of fish and even little mini caves.

The little cafe there is really good food. Limited menu. They describe the food as "fast food" hotdogs and hamburgers, but it's SO much better than that. The hot dog is big and comes wrapped in bacon with avocado on it. The burger is stacked as well as the chicken breast sandwich. Reasonably priced and convenient and really good.

We had a great time snorkeling and saw a lot of cool fish. You could actually see the oil in the water from sunscreen though. They sell the biodegradable kind there.

We were expecting more of a cenote experience with crystal clear water. The influx of salt water from the ocean creates poor visibility as the fresh and salt waters mix. There were a few fish but we weren't impressed by the numbers or variety. We enjoyed snorkeling in the cenotes and in Akumal Bay far more.

Go early, and if you can bring your own snorkel gear. The place with black letters have friendly English speaking people with lockers, bathrooms and showers and a neat short walk to the lagoon. 14 dollars to enter 3 dollars to rent a locker we brought our own snorkel gear. Lots of fish

Beautiful snorkelling here, we visited from Secrets Akumal on a bike tour! Worth a visit! Visit here earlier in the day to avoid the crowds!
