Mostly Mexican families, not many Canadians

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Oct 2009
Stayed Oct 10 to 17th. There were 10 in our group, 6 adults 4 children. We had faxed the Resort earlier requesteing 3 rooms close together, when were arrived were were not even close to each other. Two families were in building 2 and the other was building 3.
Both our rooms in bulding two were terrible, no water in the fridge, broken shower heads, broken lamps by the beds, bugs, no hand towels or face clothes the second day. Toilet plugged the second day in our room. We got in contact with our Transat agent the next day and he made arrangements with the front desk to have new rooms and on day three we moved to building three next to the other family members. The rooms were very nice as they have been remodeled. The Resort needs to remodel the rest of the Resort. From there the vacation was good.

The food was great, the waiters were friendly and most could understand English.

The beach the first day was not cleanned, but the other days it was clean and raked.

There were mostly Mexican families there for the first two days of our vacations but left on the Monday. We felt like outsiders. They were friendly and polite, the kids were all good, no complaints about the parenting skills. There were about 20 to 30 Canadians at the whole resort.

The ala cartes were good, the Portofino was the best. We had 4 children aged 5 to 10 and they had their own table both times we were there, the waiters were very good with them and they served them what ever they wanted.

The beach was good, surfing was great, pools good, adult pool is the best. The Kids Club was awesome for the children, the instructors were so good with the kids, they made braceletts, got face painting done, made butterflies and played video games.
The grounds were kept clean and groomed, most of the place was very clean.

The shows were okay, I thought they were better last year. The activities personel were great, Paulo, Kalani, Oswaldo, Tenona, and the rest of the dancers.

We had a great vacation with the family, we all enjoyed our self and did not want to leave. I would not go back here again as this was our second time and I would like to go elsewhere.

We made the recommendation to our Children in the spring as this would be a great family holiday, yes it was, but it was that way because we made it that way. I was a little disapointed as the Resort was not a nice as last year when we were there.

This resort has been a favorite of ours for many years. As the all inclusive food/accomodations makes it not only delicious but affordable. The Pallidium is located directly in front of a very fun, forgiving surf break, that generally is a very long hike to reach if not a guest. We have been going for many years and the staff has proven year after year to be not only accomodating but incredibly friendly! The massages at the spa are to die for, so relaxing and priced well. For those that seek nightly entertainment, there are live shows each night with a variety of entertainment, including guest participation. The dancer in you will find the disco quite intimate and fun for all ages. The Palladium does a superb job at keeping guests with children in one area and those who are away from family for a true quiet time in another very relaxing environment.

This is a wonderful resort, but make sure you stay in the newer Royal Suites (which is adults only). The service is great all over the resort, the food is excellent in all the restaraunts (the buffet is OK, but that's one perk of the Royal Suites - unlimited A La Carte!) We went to the Mexican restaraunt almost every night and I would highly recommend the Poblano Chile Cream soup and Steak Arrachera (?spelling?). The restaraunt on the Royal Suites side is rarely busy and has excellent food as well at all times of the day.
One of the only downsides is the distance from PV, but there are so many other places to explore nearby, you shouldn't need to make the trip more than once (plus it's $20 by taxi, or around 50 cents by bus).

The hotel had a great array of resturants to choose from. Being there in their slow season, the service was excellent. This is a fantastic resort if you enjoy surfing (one of the locals favorite areas). The nightly entertainment was fun and lively!

We stayed at the Palladium from August 15-22, 2009. We read some negative reviews before we went, but we are easy-going people who try to make the best of all situations, so we were not too concerned. We're not sure why people complain about the Palladium, because we really found no fault with it. It took us about 35 minutes to get there from the airport, but the length of this trip would depend on the traffic. We got there on Saturday at noon, so traffic wasn't too heavy.

The staff at this resort are amazing. They all speak fluent English and they are all very eager to please. Our check-in went smoothly and we did not experience any problems with the front desk staff. We had two rooms which were adjoining, and we had no problems with air conditioning or anything else that people have written about on this site. I saw one tiny bug (and I mean tiny) in our room on the last night we were there, but otherwise the rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day, and we do not have one complaint about them. (We quickly learned that if we wanted the rooms cleaned in the morning we had to put out the "please clean this room" sign by 9:00 am, otherwise we did not have our rooms cleaned until 4:00 pm.)

The activities staff were awesome, too - very friendly, very good with the kids. There were a lot of families at the main pool, but we did not have any issues with other people's children or anything, as some have noted in their reviews. We have three small kids and we understand that some people prefer not to encounter children on their holidays so we are careful to keep them out of adult areas, and we take our meals early so that people who do not have children can dine at the prime times.

We only ate at the buffet, again in deference to people who prefer that children be kept in their place. The food is ok, but let's face it, we do not travel to Mexico for the food. If people are looking for gourmet cuisine, they might be better suited to a cruise or a trip to Europe. We love Mexico because of the Mexican people and the beautiful landscape, not the food.

The fitness centre is well-equipped, but not air-conditioned and there is no spray sanitizer available for the equipment. I went there first thing in the mornings because I can not imagine how sweaty everything gets as the day goes on. It would be a good idea to carry hand sanitizer with you if you plan to use the fitness centre.

All of the staff work very hard at this hotel, and we found that (as in most places) a smile and a sincere "thank you" goes a long way, as does a fair tip. The food service staff all pool their tips and share them, but the housekeeping staff does not do that, so do yourself a favor and tip your maid. She will appreciate it, and her work will reflect that.

We have travelled to Mexico from Canada seven times and stayed at seven different resorts. This might not have been the best resort we've ever stayed at, but it is certainly not the worst, and it absolutely does not deserve some of the negative reviews it has received. If you want sun/sand/pool/relaxation, this is a good resort for you. If you want nightlife and gourmet food, you may want to look elsewhere.

Why do people pay $1000 per person per week in a 3rd World country and expect 5 star service like they were in NYC? Get a grip.

There were many things about this hotel that were 4 star and many that were 3 star. Here is the good and bad:

Good:
Very clean
Awesome service
Decent rooms
Clean and nice pools
Grounds are beautiful
Airconditioner was quite good

Bad:
Rooms were old and could use some serious TLC
Food was average
No one speaks English
90% Mexican people - do as they do and you'll be okay
Way in the middle of no where... cabs get expensive
Water and lights went out - what do you expect in Mexico?

I've stayed in 6 star resorts ($1000/night) and 3 star resorts (a lot cheaper than that). The Palladium says it's a 5 star but struggles to be a 4 star. I would give it a solid 3.5. That said, if your vacation is dependent on your hotel, your relationship needs some work. My wife and I had a great time, but this is a 3rd World country and you get what you pay for. I wouldn't stay there again but I had no problem with our vacation. We always have fun, enjoy the good things and laugh off the other things.
