On a Sunday, we stoped at McGowan around 15h00. It was hot we need a cold beer. It was after lunch rush. We waited 10 minutes for the waiter who looked a bit impatient, 10 more minutes for the beer. Ordered calamari: undercook.
In conclusion: do not go there after rush hours. Staff is not very happy to see you....

Room Tip: Views from restaurent is very nice

My husband and I returned to the restaurant at Auberge McGowan as we have done for many years during the summer. We were accompanied by two couples.
The restaurant has new operators this year. Our dining experience was surreal, a real comedy of errors!
To name a few, three of us had finished their meals when the other three received theirs. A second bottle of white wine arrived half empty. Two of us ordered the risotto. It is one of my favourite meals. The risotto was a dark brown mush of something you would not touch if you were starving to death. No hint of rice.
In desperation and disbelief we summoned the chef and the owner.
The chef was outraged: « obviously I had never eaten risotto » the brown mush  « was the rice »! Both the chef and the owner were very defensive and beyond rude!
The owner went on the offensive again as we were leaving. Nothing more needed to be said on our part and I was reminded of Oscar Wilde’s saying: « If I have to explain, you don’t understand. »
The chef should visit the chef at Bistro Quatre -Saisons. He makes the best risotto anywhere. The owner could take a few lessons in civility and courtesy as well as restaurant management from Thierry, one of the owners of Bistro Quatre-Saisons.

My husband and I stayed at the lodge 25 years ago & decided to go back to do some fishing after we heard they had reopened .
We were pleasantly surprised that it was still quaint . The restaurant however was a different matter.
It was AWSOME! The chef & his staff were just great ! We ended up having dinner there every night .The lady who is managing the inn was a sweetheart & so helpful .
We are already looking forward to going there again next year.

We were staying at another B & B in the area and when I casually asked our host if there was a nice country inn nearby, he said yes! Auberge McGowan was only a few minutes down the road, right on the lake. We made a reservation for supper (good thing, as it filled right up on a Friday night) and had a lovely dinner and evening. A guitarist provided live music as we ate on the terrace outside overlooking the marina and lake. The sunset was glorious. We each ordered table d'hote, one pork medallions, one risotto, that came with soup or salad and appetizer and dessert. It got late, we were tired, so we took dessert away with us, two flavours of mousse cake. It was ok, not the greatest, kind of a spongy layer cake with fruit filling. But the mood of the evening on a warm summer's night was lovely; the service was good; and the place was filled with happy laughing people. A super find for us. We will no doubt not ever be back there, but we will remember it.

We had another delightful dinner last sunday at mcgowan. Food was very good . View and atmosphere Great with a picture perfect view of the lake and all the locals having fun with the water, swimming, boating etc. Although the restaurant was packed the service was good and the Special ceasar salad with grilled chicken is different and excellant. All around nice experience. We boat there from the US several times during the summer and always have a great time.
