Just returned from a delightful 3-day, 2-night stay at L'auberge McGowan. The inn is beside the lake on the village quay, where folks come to swim, boat and enjoy each other's company. The atmosphere is friendly and private at the same time, which is great when you want to relax. There is a pleasant terrace on the ground floor, and porches facing the lake on the other two floors with comfy furniture for a quiet read or a sunset view.
Our room was charming and immaculate, simply furnished, including an extra blanket and a fan to accommodate this year's capricious weather. The shared bathroom and showers were also clean and inviting, as were the common spaces of the auberge.
We ate there both nights. The dinner was delicious (the best I've had anywhere), plentiful and served by a charming and professional staff. There was live music the second evening, a guitarist/singer who added much to the ambiance of the evening.
We were welcomed by the charming proprietors, the Gaudrau's, who clearly enjoy making their guests feel comfortable and well cared for. Even though this was our first time, we quickly felt as if we were visiting old friends and are planning to become regulars. Thank you!!More
