Stayed at the keltic on September 1st My husband and I enjoyed our stay enjoyed the entertainment in the lounge. We stayed in s cottage which over looked the ocean. Staff was very accommodating as I mistakenly booked a 4 bedroom cottage and meant to book a 2 bedroom cottage which they changed for us. Cottages are a little rustic but added to the ambiance. Would definitely return next time we visit Cape Breton

We stayed here for three nights over the Summer. After coming from Newfoundland and staying in basic accommodation, we wanted to splurge (very pricey here) so decided to stay here as it is advertised as premier/luxury accommodation.
I am disappointed to be writing this review but feel it was important to - my husband wrote to the Manager of Customer Services over two weeks ago and has not had any response, so now I am writing our review on here.
The reasons we were disappointed with our stay include:

- We stayed in the main lodge. We have an 8 month old baby. The room itself was quaint though small. Bed was very comfortable. But every 10 minutes late in the evening and early in the morning we heard doors slamming down the whole corridor, waking our baby up. The air conditioning was also very old and did not work well, and was very loud. We asked if we could change rooms and explained our situation to customer services, and the lady at the front desk did not show any concern or make any effort. She said she would talk to her manager and get back to us. We never heard back. We followed up the next day, and it was the same situation - no concern and interest to help us make our stay more comfortable.

- We also had dinner one night at the restaurant. We had to wait over an hour and a half for a table. When we were finally seated it was after 9pm, and food didn't arrive until after 10pm. The food itself was not anything to get excited about. I understand it was a really busy night, but why wouldn't you take bookings? At least then guests can go and enjoy their evenings rather than wait around for so long. Also, if you know the hotel is full, why wouldn't you put more staff on to cater for this? The night we went was a disaster at the restaurant. I would not have expected this for a hotel that charges guests a premium to stay there. The best night we had was when my husband went and picked up take away pizza and we had a picnic on the grounds overlooking the ocean. I would recommend people do this rather than eat at the restaurant!

For the price you pay to stay here, we were expecting much better customer service, more comfortable rooms and a much better dining experience. I would not stay here again for the price we paid, and would not recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the main lodge.

The on line photos of this resort make it look beautiful plus they market their golf course, Cape Breton Highlands, as "one of the top 100 golf courses in the world". In all honesty, the photos of both the golf course and the lodge are very misleading. For a top 100 course, it does not deserve this distinction. Maybe that was awarded a long time ago as it should not apply to 2018. The pro shop is minimal as well as the grill and bar area. The setting and design for the course is beautiful since it is located in the Cape Breton National Park, but the course conditions were quite poor. The resort was tired looking, not what the on line photos represented at all. Our room and bathroom were quite small and there is no central air. They had brought in a portable air conditioner unit that was loud all night long, but at least we were cool. We did have an enjoyable dinner here though. We would not have a return visit here.

Hello jbmorris77,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are sad to hear that Ketlic Lodge did not live up to your expectations. Maybe one of our newly updated and modern rooms in Corson House would be more along the lines of what you may have seen on our website. We hope you offer us the change to make a better impression on a future visit.

Cheers,

Ryan

beautiful relaxing stay with views that are breathtaking perched on a cliff-side point- rooms are a bit dated but rustic and lovely all around- on the Cabot Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands national park.

After reading the reviews on the Keltic Lodge I was beginning to regret we had made reservations here. I was expecting less than desirable accommodations and staff, but was pleasantly surprised. We had a choice between staying at the main lodge or one of the cottages, which the staff graciously showed us both rooms before making our decision. We choose the more rustic cottage room to experience a different type of stay. The room did have a rustic feel to it, with a window unit, fireplace, and opens to the outside, BUT it was great! The room was clean and plenty big enough with comfortable bed and sheets, large TV, mini refrigerator, and anything else we needed. The view from our room was unbelievable and with chairs on the front lawn a beautiful place to drink coffee in the morning or have cocktails in the evening. The live music in the main lodge in the evening was such a nice treat for us. You do need to be prepared for a slower laid back pace in the casual restaurant on the property. All three nights we ate there we did have about a thirty minute wait, but took that time to enjoy the live music in the bar area. The food was very good and the staff friendly, but if they are busy you may need to be patient while they are trying to accommodate large crowds. Everything about our stay was a very pleasantly experience. Really can’t say enough good things about The Keltic Lodge and thinking about bringing our entire family back here at some point.
