It took us a little while to find the cottage but had we paid more attention to the signs we would have had no issues. Cottage is just a few steps from the water. Lots of outdoor seating as well as a fire pit. Cottage has a very eclectic feeling with old and new furnishings. A few minor problems that could be contributed to operator error i.e. microwave, freezer, overhead light in bathroom. No big deal. We would definitely visit again as our time there was very relaxing. One suggestion - it would be nice to have a COZY reading chair overlooking the water either is the bedroom or family area. Thanks for a wonderful visit.
After a week of b&b accommodations in NL, we were looking for a completely different experience just slightly off the beaten track and preferably in one of the island's out-ports that still has a vibrant resident population. The hamlet of Dunfield and particularly Spurrell's Heritage Home delivered in spades! This is a special unique opportunity to stay in very comfortable well equipped accommodation in an absolutely breath-taking seaside setting, and also to meet some of the friendliest locals you are likely to ever encounter in your travels.
Highly recommended as a base for visiting Trinity and the Bonavista Peninsula.
This is a beautiful vacation home. The house was spotless, beds were comfortable and we all fell in love with the view. We grilled burgers, lit a bonfire and watched the whales spouting off in the distance. We are already planning a return trip back to NL and hope to stay here longer.
Stylish heritage home furnished with an appropriate mix of old an new things.
Unique Location. Dedication of owner & Family visible everywhere. Would have loved to stay longer.
We arrived in early July and found to our amazement an iceberg sitting in the cove, wow what a great surprise! An even bigger surprise was watching the Minke Whales cruising in the cove. (Of course everyone will have different experiences and sites depending on the time of year) The Heritage Home is well signed and easy to get to from the small village of Trinity East (less than 10 minutes from the highway). We loved the homey feeling of the cottage, all of the amenities including laundry, tv and the "Random Passage" series (our daughters got into this in a big way) and with the actual site about 15 minutes away we couldn't resist! From the cozy home you are close to a day in New Bonaventure and Rugged Beauty Boat Tours, the Tea Room, Joe's Bar and the Random Passage Site. You can drive to Bonavista for the day to visit the lighthouse, Ryan Premises and Ye Matthew Legacy and hike to the Puffins. Plan to spend a day or 2 in the Picture Postcard Trinity East town. Our only complaint is only spending 3 nights, we wished we would have stayed for 5 nights (our family loved everything about the Bonavista Peninsula and all of the locations. For the beer lovers check out Port Rexton Brewery after a hike on the Sherwink Trail!
