the Maine Welcome Center suggested we try Carman's for a late lunch. We ordered hamburgers and fries and both were delicious. This diner obviously has a following because on our return trip it was packed at lunch time.

OMG! Besides the adorable Halloween decorations and the "feel" of this place (you can tell they love what they do) the food is amazing! We ate dinner here one night, both of us had the pork chops, didn't realize we'd get 2 chops! This is home cooking, nothing fast here and well worth the wait! We had breakfast the next morning before we left to go back to NY. It was like waking up and walking into grandma's kitchen. The whole neighborhood comes here, groggy and hungry. The staff are sweet, the whole experience is just wonderful. We will definitely be going here again next year on our way thorugh again. The feel was home style back in the 60's, music and all.

We'd been hoping to get into another restaurant in town, but it closed just as we drove up. Luckily we wound up at Carman's and found a lively diner full of local people. Service was super friendly. We enjoyed the best seafood chowder we had on our whole trip to New Brunswick (and, trust me, we ate a lot of chowder). We split a piece of delicious pie for dessert and were introduced to King Cole tea (which we can't get in the States and wish we could). If you're in St. Stephen, I heartily recommend Carman's.
