This cozy cottage in the resort town of Port Renfrew was a great getaway spot. Although we visited in the quiet season (winter) and some of the visitor spots were closed, there was some great hiking and beach walking nearby. In fact, the lack of tourists was a bonus for us!
With two of us and an adult daughter, it was just the right amount of room for our visit. The kitchen was well appointed and the internet speed more than made up for the lack of cell service in the town. Had it not been raining (it is the west coast in February after all), we would have looked forward to sitting around the fire pit in the evening.
The owner of the "Shack in the Woods" was incredibly accomodating and very prompt when I somehow booked it for the wrong dates; her help in making sure that our visit was not interrupted by my error was greatly appreciated.
The only minor downside to our visit was that some cottage construction was still going on in the area, but once that draws to a close in the near future, it will be a perfect place to spend some time on the southwest cost of Vancouver Island.
