This is the 2nd year in a row we’re stayed at this location for the Honors Chorus concert. After sweating to death all night the first night because the room never would cool less than 75 degrees, we were moved into two other rooms but the same result. The last maintenance man said the whole hotel was like this because since it was cool outside, the chiller for the whole hotel was not working. After watching 3 different maintenance workers remove d the faceplate of three different rooms, the filters were absolutely filthy. No wonder they’re having troubles! Replace the ding dang filters people! The whole hotel is in need of some major updating! The only reason I gave two stars instead of a one star is because of the convenient location to many restaurants. Will be staying next year at Embassy Suites unless this place updates in the next year.

This hotel is located right in the heart of things. You can't beat the location. They charge for parking ($15/night) although you can park for slightly less ($10/night) across the street in the parking lot immediately in front of the Embassy Suites. The central location makes it convenient to walk to most shops, galleries, bars and restaurants. Nearby is the convention center which was pretty obvious as on Saturday evening, many of the hotel occupants were dressed up and heading over there.

While the rooms and facilities will resemble many other Marriott properties, there are more photos on the walls and elevators that brighten things up a bit, but unfortunately we felt that the hotel was due for a major renovation. Basically the place has seen lots of use and was ready for a make-over. The elevators looks a little worse for wear, the rooms are nicked up in places, the climate control was out of whack. We had no issues with cleanliness, just left with a sense that Marriott will need to make an investment to refresh the place.

I booked this hotel for business purposes months in advance. On the Day of my arrival, I called the hotel and confirmed late arrival. Imagine to my surprise when I went to check in around 10:30pm and found "I had been bumped due to their overbooking". They explained this is “standard procedure” in the lodging business.
They reassured me that they had found another hotel for me AND were going to cover the cost. The hotel was not "comparable", and was actually in the middle of a renovation, with bare light fixtures, holes in the ceiling and roaches in the bathroom sink.
We had booked the Marriott because of its proximity (1 block) to our meeting venue. The “other” hotel was located 15 minutes away, causing travel difficulties during a period when the streets around the Marriott & the meeting venue were to be closed due to a homecoming parade. The Marriott staff stated they would cover a taxi to and from the other hotel and gave us the card for their "direct bill" transportation services.
They basically said everything they could to get us out of the lobby, because outside of the "room being covered" at a sub-par hotel, no additional help was offered. After speaking with the manager, he eventually provided 25,000 reward points or the equivalent of 1 night stay and no taxi coverage. Corporate was contacted several times and they were rude and dismissive as well.
When you travel, and use hotels, trust is a necessity. You reserve, double check reservation (which shouldn't be required) and you show up ready to pay for the service, not be given the runaround when you have a 7 am meeting. This shouldn't have happened, the runaround shouldn’t have happened. Needless to stay, confidence and trust is gone with this chain.

The family recently stayed at the Winston-Salem Marriott and we had a nice visit. We were there for a college parents weekend and it was another local colleges homecoming so the hotel was packed.

The property is fairly generic as far as Marriotts go. It was in decent condition but could use some updating. Everything was in working condition.

The staff was super friendly and supportive, especially given how crazy busy it was. We were shocked that some of the staff parking cars and some of the desk staff recognized us over and over and welcomed us back on returns. Very well done!!!!

The fitness center was ample and the concierge lounge for Rewards Members was nice, but extremely busy this weekend.

When in the area this is a good choice as it is in the middle of downtown and within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and other destinations (and a very easy drive to colleges and Old Salem).

Come and stay as the staff is worth the visit!

Stayed for three nights and was pleasantly surprised. The convention space is a little dated but, the service was great by the front desk and restaurant staff. Breakfast buffet had great selection and was inexpensive.
