Stayed a week in Laurel Ridge cabin for our wedding anniversary. Cabin was spotless, well supplied, and well maintained. Bottom floor has a living room, kitchen, dining area, bedroom with queen bed, and large bathroom (located across the hall). Upstairs is a bedroom (queen bed), 2nd full bath, and small sitting area with a land line phone. Good for two couples or parents/teenagers wanting their own separate space. Outside the covered front porch overlooks the fire pit area. The hot tub is on the side of the house and accessed off the porch. Outdoor light at parking area, motion detector lights on cabin, solar lights lining walk to fire pit, and two Tiki lanterns by fire pit provide light around the property. The driveway, although steep, is paved and in new condition. We used low gear pulling a trailer with our mid size suv. The private parking was ample for our vehicle, 14' trailer and trike. Never a concern over safety of our vehicles. A full sized truck with larger trailer may have issues maneuvering the parking area however it should be do-able. Try to arrive before dark: streets to the cabin are well marked but the driveway is basically unmarked and sneaks up on you (first driveway after small bridge). If the steep driveway is a concern or you need to accommodate more people the cabin below, Rising Ridge, is also a vacation rental.
Cabin's satellite TV and internet were excellent. Cell reception at the cabin, however, was one or no bars (ATT & Cricket). Text usually worked but sometimes with considerable delay. Only one phone call came thru during our week stay. Phone coverage in nearby Whittier was spotty but we could make calls from near the top of the hill in Whittier. Next visit we are bringing a portable cell booster to avoid the drive to town. Groceries available at Food Lion.
MOTORCYCLE RIDERS :
We were grateful for the hot tub after enjoying the incredible rides surrounding the cabin. More gorgeous roads than you can imagine (and we live near Texas' Twisted Sisters !) . In addition to the famous Dragons Tail check-out The Moonshiners, The Rattler, The Skyway, The Blue Ridge, and numerous side roads. Try to score one of the free maps by WildRides info (or go online). GREAT source of information ! Consider packing a lunch at least once. Numerous picnic pull-offs (most with a table) and the views are awesome ! Bathrooms/gas stations are few. Most are above average for cleanliness however we appreciated having baby wipes/hand sanitizer at the Forrest services non-flush bathrooms.
Deals Gap (Dragon Tail) has two awesome metal dragons.....grab the dragon's chain and give it a yank...... after slaying the ride !
If the dragon won this round don't forget to stop at the "Tree of Shame" located in hotel parking lot.
We rode The Dragon during the week mid May. Traffic was perfect. For summer weekends the veteran riders recommended an early morning ride.
