Mess Hall Cutie and I, along with our Mess Hall Friends, had a very good lunch in Historic down town New Bern. This restaurant we have eaten at before and have always been pleased. Three of us had one of the lunch specials, Scallops lightly grilled served over rice and black beans covered with a flavorful grilled pineapple salsa blended with a secret blend of herbs. The other special was a tropical seasoned shrimp wrap slightly mild heat with a tropical sauce.($9.99 each). An appetizer was ordered, alligator crisps with a tangy mildly spiced dipping sauce. This was alligator bite size bits fried with a spicy light breading. Very flavorful, not chewy but tender with great mild flavor from the meat and breading(no wild game flavor). This Mess Hall Junkie had Gator in both Louisiana and Florida. Morgan's was the best I've had in 50 years. Yes I have a few years of Mess Hall Experience with the Troops. The wait staff were very attentive but not overly and made sure we had enough of the complimentary warm croissants covered with a honey glaze. Overall this Mess Hall easily would qualify for a family gathering or a first date restaurant. Weekends are busy, but there are a lot of tables in this historic building. Yes they have outdoor seating behind their building during warm weather. Mess Hall Review!
