Owner description: Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina is home to the new Andy Griffith Museum. Come see the largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia collected by his friend Emmett Forrest. The collection features hundreds of items from the life and career of Andy Griffith in movies, television, and music as well as a variety of memorabilia. There are even actual props from The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock given by Andy Griffith himself. The collection also includes items donated by cast members and actors from The Andy Griffith Show, as well as a special exhibit on the career of actress and current Mount Airy resident Betty Lynn who played Thelma Lou. Admission to the Andy Griffith Museum also includes an exhibit on the Siamese Twins; a photography exhibit "Mount Airy to Mayberry," and the Old-Time Music Heritage Hall at the Historic Earle Theatre, all within walking distance of the museum. I was on a limited schedule and was without my wife on this trip, so I opted not to actually go into the museum. But still enjoyed seeing the foyer and, of course, the statue of Andy and Opie outside. Hope to return one day and take in the museum and the playhouse!

Mount Airy,NC, is definitely very skewed toward all things related to Andy and his life and career . This museum is not very large but it has some interesting info and artifacts in it. It also houses a one-room museum honoring Eng and Chang Bunker, conjoined twins from Siam, who settled here and prospered.

It may be worth a look, but don't go out of your way. Very disappointed in it even if it was just an $8 entrance fee.

Well done and entertaining. Only takes about an hour even if you take your time. We enjoyed reading about the other acting projects Andy did.
