My husband found this little gem and we took a trip here from Cleveland, OH in March of 2015. This is a small inn, with I think 8 guest rooms in total and is couples only, which was really nice for the getaway we were looking for. Every day, the innkeeper would drop off an assorted basket of biscuits, muffins, jams, snacks and fruit. The rooms are spacious and have lots of storage. There's a big, comfy leather couch and the bed is also quite comfortable. The patio door and window look out on the balcony, which has an unobstructed view of the beach and ocean. The bathroom is huge and has an enormous whirlpool tub. This place is away from the bigger condo communities, so it's very quiet. It almost feels like you are in your own little house. If you're looking for the usual bed and breakfast, with group activities and cocktail hours, this is not the place to go. If you are looking for a home away from home for a few days on the beach, this is definitely where you'll want to be.

Room tip: All rooms have a beach/ocean view. You can't go wrong.

We just spent 3 fabulous nights at Darlings by the Sea. Jim thought of everything to make our stay memorable. The bathrooms are equipped with soaps, shampoo, bath salts, bath robes and more. The breakfast basket was filled with goodies, the quiche was delicious. It's very quiet, except for the sounds of the waves. We look forward to returning to this gem.

Room tip: Relaxing, romantic

My fiancee and I spent a week here. Jim was a fantastic host. The daily breakfast baskets contained everything you could want. Our room was very spacious with the best ocean view from our balcony one could wish for. The out door shower was a plus as not to track sand into our room after playing in the surf and collecting sea shells for our daughter. The two person jacuzzi tub needs no explanation. Great bars and restaurants are with-in walking distance, or a short 2mi. drive to Carolina Beach. We had a blast and found it most difficult to leave.

Room tip: We stayed in room #54. I think it was the best choice, but would have stayed in any of them.

Our third trip to Darlings in just over a year. We love the place. We are at the beach but don't have to be on the beach. Jim is a great host and takes good care of us. We had an opportunity to check out all the rooms. We prefer room 54, but lots of folks seem to like the lighthouse room the best. All 5 rooms have beautiful and unobstructed views of the ocean. The exercise room is great and use of its facilities is a great way to start your day prior to a walk on the beach or the boardwalk. It is great place to unwind, relax and reconnect. Check out the pier, Freddie's, the Diner and Jack Mackerels.

I'll start with the bad. The dampners weren't working properly causing our room to be subject to other rooms a.c. so we blocked the vents with towels and grabbed an extra blanket. That's the bad.
The good...not enough bandwidth to say how absolutely amazing our stay was. We went to relax, recharge and reconnect. We got all we hoped. From Jim, the operator being as invisible as possible allowing us to just enjoy the time. The cat, Galliano, being just a loveable attention taker. Waking up, having coffee, listening and watching the waves gave us the perfect start to our day. These days were spent enjoying the local amenities such as the Tuesday market, craft shops in Carolina Beach and local restaurants. All are excellent. The Kure Beach Diner for just that - solid everyday, tasty food. Jack Mackerel had some awesome seafood, ribs and hummus. Big Daddy's had some southern style ribs for a dinner special they need to keep as a regular item. All of this in walking distance.
If you are looking to have an amazing time with your loved one. I can not see a better place.
If you are looking for a great place to party all night, look elsewhere. :)

Room tip: The lighthouse room is awesome.
