Walking up to the Max Patch is well worth the effort. The incredible view is certainly a sight to see. Bring your lunch and soak in the beauty while up there. 360 degrees of mountain ranges. Easy parking at base of mountain. The Appalachian Trail runs thru the bald spot known as "Max Patch". Take your family and enjoy.

We drove 2 and a half hours to hike up to Max Patch, and it was well worth it for the view! It is one of the easiest hikes we’ve ever done with the GREATEST view we’ve ever had at the top. We took other trails to make our hike longer and a little more challenging but our 5 year old had no issues at all! We will be back hopefully to catch a sunset or sunrise , those 360 degree views are breathtaking!

Go here! I promise you will thank me!

Unbelievable view any time of the year! So beautiful and blessed to be close enough to visit here! Easy hike to summit & don’t miss the town of Hot Springs!

It's a beautiful spot with some of the best 360 views in NC.
Unfortunately, that doesn't always attract those who respect the land. On a Monday, the mountain was littered with gallon water bottles, sleeping bags, tents, you name it, but it was simply left behind by uncaring people who apparently enjoyed the mountain and simply left their mess.
The redeeming part of this is the couple who, with their dog in tow, and driving a small car, collected and carried down the mess from Max Patch. They obviously had not come with this task in mind, but they remedied it! And I'm proud that I was able to haul some of the collected mess out of there. To that couple, may you forever enjoy unscathed nature. To the lowlifes who left their trash behind, don't ever come back.

My wife and I got married on top of Max Patch last week, it was beautiful! It’s worth the drive! Whether it’s a special occasion, some much needed quiet time, a lovely spot for yoga, or family time, head on up! It’s located on the Appalachian Trail, so take some snacks, you’ll most likely see some hungry hikers passing through.

My husband and I and our 2 dogs hiked this area as a day hike. The views are incredible, but we like peace and quiet and it was far from it. The entire area was crowded with tents and people. Cars were parked up and down the road because the parking area was full. It was nice to have seen it, but we will not go back there. We found other nicer hiking in the area.

This was an easy climb to the summit, a beautiful 360 view of three other States (Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia) mountains.

I have hiked and driven to most places in the Smoky Mountain and Western North Carolina mountains (actually was raised in WNC), but this is by far the best 360 degree panoramic view I have ever seen of them. I will be returning to see them again in the fall.

Max Patch is such a wonderful place to go and hike. Take the left side up and the right side down. The left is a little shorter it is easier. The right side does have some stairs if that is hard on you stick with the left both ways. We were fortunate to meet a group of young ladies and their children when we got to the top. We had fun taking pictures of them with their dogs. Several families and couples were walking around and it seem to get more crowded as the day went along. The views are just amazing.

After an interesting drive, up a seldom marked gravel road, you park along the side of the road. But the best part is ahead.
Follow the easy trail up the mountain, join the AT (Appalachian Trail, white stripe) and quickly arrive at he summit. WOW, what a 360 degree view atop the bald! It was a beautiful day today, the mountain top was full of happy families, couples, dogs and children enjoying the awesome scenery, open spaces and kite flying. A day to remember.
