My wife and I had our honeymoon here, and since it was the off season the staff graciously upgraded us to one of the Spa Suites which usually run $700+ a night. We are not luxury travelers or spa goers, so this was a real treat. Several things that were new and enjoyable to us may be old hat to some of you.

The property is a combination of the old hotel, a newer lodge section and the spa suites, which are private rooms above the spa that allow you to take an elevator from your room directly to the spa below without walking through the hotel. In other words, you just slip on your robe and go!

The bed was very large and comfortable, and the bath was huge, with a jacuzzi, stand up rain shower, heated tile floors, the works. It was bigger than my first apartment! The room was huge with remote controlled everything.

It was very quiet while we were there, which was perfect. It does have a elegant, old lodge feel with dark wood hallways, lounge areas, an observation deck over Highlands (especially pretty when Christmas lights were on) and - it must be mentioned - a butler's pantry with a refrigerator full of Dove Bars! Now that's luxury.

And the massages we had at the spa were some of the best I've ever had. Hotel guests can take advantage of the spa's amenities and fitness center. The whirlpools and saunas are especially nice, even though as a couple we couldn't enjoy them together.

It's a good thing we liked our room, because to us Highlands was not a very exciting place. Very touristy and filled with cutsey gift shops and not much else. The surrounding areas have gem mines and outdoor activities, but overall this is not one of the more exciting (or scenic) areas of N.C.

But as a romantic getaway, I'd consider Old Edwards again - though we're now spoiled!

The Old Edward Inn is set in the middle of the very small mtn town of Highlands NC. The veiws during the fall have been spectacular and the weather beautiful during our last 2 stays this month. We have now stayed in 3 different catagories and found all of them to be great. The Luxury spa suite being our favorite. It is private and on the top of the hotel looking over the small town of Highlands. The hotel spa is amazing. It has all the treatments of a large resort in a relaxing space .The fireplace and soothing music take you away..The hot stone massage was fabuluos and the blueberry hot tea a special treat. The property landscaping is very lush with manicured grass and the flowers were colorful and abundant The small hot tub and resort style pool is a quiet zone. Signs posting quiet please remind the guests that this place is for peace and relaxation. The interior of all the suites that we stayed in were sumputious. Double vanity sinks, limestone counters and deep jetted tubs. The 5 star Bvlgari bath products are a nice touch. The beds were comfortable enough for a hotel, nice Frette linens everywhere. There is hot tea. coffee and Dove Bars available anytime in the help yourself stocked panty. The room service was delicious and Madisons was a culinary delight. This place is $$$$$$

I LOVE the Old Edwards Inn. My husband and I went for our 1st anniversary and had a wonderful time. The rooms are smaller than I expected, but very cozy. The heated tile floors were a pleasant extra, especially for the cooler days.

The Spa is one of the best spas I have ever been to (and I go a lot). Service at both the Spa and the Inn were impecable.

By the time we left, we were both totally de-stressed! I would recommend this getaway to anyone looking for a romatic get away from the real world.

We booked a luxury spa suite for two nights for the rate of $695.00 + a night. We asked if there was an outside sitting area with a table and two chairs and were told that there was.
When we were shown to our room, we were disappointed that the outside sitting area was very narrow and on a side street less than half a block from a main highway with noisy truck traffic.
When we tried to use the high tech touch screen for TV, DVD, CD, room lights and temperature, it didn't work. We called the front desk and they sent a technician who worked on it for 30 or so minutes. Finally he said it hadn't been working for over two months because he saw the cables had the wrong ends and had never been connected.
Before leaving for dinner we called to have a burned out bulb replaced in a wall sconce. On our return from dinner, the ceilling fan and several lights weren't working. We called the front desk again and a repairman came and checked the fan switches and lights. He left and returned to tell us the circuit breaker had tripped.
There had been a turn down service while we were at dinner, but we noticed that wine glasses that we had used had not been cleaned/replaced.
The next day upon our return to the room, in late afternoon, some of our bathroom amenities had not been replaced, some towels were not replaced, towels that were replaced were sloppily hung with the wrong side and manufacturer labels exposed. The bedskirt was tucked between the boxspring & mattress at several places, the bedspread was hanging 24" on one side and only 8" on the other side and all the way to the floor and crocked at foot of the bed. Pictures were very crooked on the wall and the furniture tops had not been dusted. There was no turn down service on the second night, even though we left the room for dinner from 7 to 9, the same as the night before.
We made an appointment to meet with the room manager at 10 AM before checking out the next day. She was very apologetic and said they would like us to come again. She offered to upgrade us from the least expensive room in the house ($185.00 per night) to the best room in the house, a luxury spa suite ($995.00 per night), for our next visit.
When we called and spoke to the room manager for a visit a month later, we were told that in order to be upgraded we would have to book a $700.00 a night cottage or the luxury spa suite. We said this didn't make any sense to us and was not what she had told us.
We will never stay at or recommend The Old Edwards Inn.

Please note that Old Edwards Inn and Spa is under completely new management since July 2008. We have become family friendly and auite affordable. We encourage everyone who stayed with us prior to 2009, if you did not have a good experience, to please return and give us another chance. As you can see from the majority of the reviews, we have an enormous guest satisfaction rate. After a $50 million renovation and a complete overhaul of the restaurant and staff, we have a new Mobil Four-Star rating. Therefore, we are troubled by anyone that might have a less than favorable impression due to circumstances that no longer exist at Old Edwards Inn and Spa. We take great pride in our personal guest service and we are certain you will be delighted with your next visit.
Thank You.

My wife and I stayed three nights during the Labor Day weekend. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms clean and very upscale. The landscape beautiful. We didn't want to come home.
