We were on vacation and with the hurricane scare and almost off season there weren’t many options. We stopped by this restaurant and had the best Hatteras style clam chowder, super yummy and prefer it to the thick cream based. I also had the fried flounder sandwich.....and it was very lightly coated and not greasy! The cocktail sauce and then tartar sauce are home made and the tartar sauce was addictive. Who knew! Very unassuming restaurant but worth a stop.

We came in so happy to be back at our favorite place to eat on the OBX and to our surprise the remodel was very nice but that warm welcome feeling was gone ! No happy greeting we were seated and left 5 minutes or so later a girl came with menus and left again 10 minutes later our drink order was taken and finally our order. Appetizers came out at the same time as our meals while we were eating our salads. Salad bar was not kept up many containers were empty. Several times we had to look for our waitress because she was not attentive and did not bring things to our table. It would have been understood if they were busy but this was early before the dinner rush and only 3 tables had people at them. What a let down even the food was just okay it use to be fantastic.

During our stay on Cape Hatteras, my wife and I wanted a good crabcake. We were both raised on the eastern shore of Maryland and grew up on seafood, so we KNOW a good crabcake! I asked our host at the Cape Hatteras Motel where we could get a good crabcake. She said the QUARTERDECK Restaurant in Frisco - a small town about 8 miles from our motel - had the best. We went there and she was right! Not a little crab and the rest filler, but crab cakes made from lump crabmeat. Great service - great food - would highly recommend the short drive there for a mouth watering meal!

All along the Carolina coast there are traditional “fish house” eating establishments of this sort. The Quarterdeck is a bit more upscale in its interior than its rivals. The food was served in a more attractive fashion as well. The seafood was fresh and well prepared. Menu options are limited to reflect the fish house tradition, fish, shellfish, simple sides and a few items for non-fish eaters. One of the lovely surprises was an upscale desert...their homemade pie had a flakey crust, great key lime flavor and a high topping of perfectly baked meringue with a browned top and crystallized sugar kissing it with texture and flavor. We will come again.
