Very impressed! Reservations went seamlessly. The morning of our check-in, there was a rock slide in the area, which could have affected our route of travel, the resort called and emailed us to let us know and offer alternative directions. We stayed in a king lodge room in a seperate building from the lodge, it was clean and updated. The only restaurant that was open was in the lodge and we got take out our first night there and breakfast there the next morning. The food was good and the service was even better. Since it was off season, there were not a lot of things going on, but enough to keep us busy. JP, the activities director hosted an awesome campfire on Saturday night. Our only minor complaint was that our TV had bad reception, but we weren't there to watch TV anyway, so it didn't really matter. Will definitely be going back to visit in the summer!!

I must say that I was a little concerned about our decision when my 70+ y.o. in-laws told me, "Oh Fontana Village, we used to go there before we had children." We read the review about the rustic cabins and could deal with primitive accommodations as long as the pool and lodge was as nice as it looked in the pictures. And true the reviews, this is what we experienced. What we did not expect was the authentic mountain resort activities, steeped in tradition. We were lured into rocking chairs on the veranda, weaving baskets, and square dancing. Not exactly what I had planned, but my wife... OK I loved it too. The kids had their activities too. While my wife was doing crafts and I was exploring the trails, the kids played in the supervised game room. At night when we sat around the group campfire with other guests, the kids ran around on the activity field playing frisby football. The location of the resort is also good as a basecamp for day trips to Nantahala River and the more pristine southwestern region of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. OK now for the negatives: Our cabin had dim lights, warped floors, and and tiny kitchen. We had to call the front desk about ants and maintenance promptly brought us two spray cans of insecticide. Ours was a duplex and we could hear the activities next door. It was not bad when we were there but we could tell this place was popular with motorcycle and sport car enthusiasts. Given all the negatives, we told ourselves that we would return. Next time I would like to bring my own sports car (instead of the family van) and take a sunset boat cruise on Lake Fontana.

Room Tip: When making reservation ask for accommodations in new or newly remodeled construction.

I go once a year for a week with about 500 other MINI Cooper owners. We rent a cabin and enjoy exploring the area and of course driving the Dragon portion of route 129.
Fontana is really fun and the staff is so helpful. The restaurant is pretty good too.

The cabins are basic and clean. They are not fancy, but this isn't a place you go for a fancy cabin. The rooms in the lodge are probably nicer if you are looking for that. The cabins are fun for groups and save you money with the kitchen facilities.

The area is stunningly beautiful and a lot of fun to explore

I have stayed at the lodge over New Years three times now and it keeps getting better each time. The lodge is 3.5 hours from Atlanta so it's an easy and very pretty drive. The lodge/resort is not fancy, but it's quaint and clean - very much what you'd expect from a mountain lodge at such reasonable prices. The food is quite impressive, and the New Years Eve party in the renovated rec center was a lot of fun (decent band, about 200 people there). I definitely recommend Fontana Village Resort for a weekend getaway.

We were looking for something new to do on New Years Eve... Found Fontana Village here on trip advisor and decided to give it a try...

We called New Years Eve morning to see if anything was left available.. To our suprise there was! Not the best of rooms but on last minute it was nice. We got a Garden (non-pool facing). It was clean and quant not overly nice but not a hole in the wall. They offer smoking and non-smoking rooms, due to the last minute reservations we (smokers) were placed in a non-smoking room, no big... We visited the lodge to check in and it looked to be very nice, decorated to the extent that it should have been but not to much. Rooms attached to the lodge seemed to be the preferred choice for return guest...

We got the New Years Eve Party Package - 250ish for a one night stay at the room, dinner at the lodge restaurant for two, two passes to the party/fireworks show, and breakfast at the lodge the next morning... Not to bad but not a great deal either!

The Party - It was what seemed to be semi-formal but with no dress code. Cash bar was in place, we arrived early and started to get drinks, ($6 shots of Scotch / $6 glasses of wine) the glasses of wine were servered in a very small plastic wine glass souvenir glass and the scotch was servered in a throw away plastic water cooler glass???

It was decorated with taste and as couples started to arrive we noticed that it was a family safe party with anyone (including persons under 21) allowed in the door. We have a 4 year old little girl and our as family as they come, our little one was with a family member some 2 hours away. But to drink in the presents of 3- 13 year olds mingling along beside you on New Years was less than desirable....

The Resort - Thumbs up (except NO AT&T Verizon cell reception)
The Food - Buffet style and rather good
The Room - Middle of the road and very clean
The Party - Good but could have done without kids on New Years Eve
The Fireworks - Nicely Done Fontana Village!

Room Tip: Seems to be the lodge connected rooms were repeat guest first choice.
