Stayed at this Comfort Inn while using Elizabeth City as base for a couple day vacation in November. Hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly. The elevator is at the opposite end of the building from the parking, so I used the stairs mostly. I was in a king bed room that was wide along the back wall, i.e. after entering the room, the bed was close to the door with the head against the wall toward the hallway, and the bath was down a short hall at the end of the room (layout also allowed for 2 windows). Microwave and fridge, but only 2 drawers and the closet rod was so close to the closet doors that the hangers had to lie at an angle to close the doors. With the closet at the far end of the room, beyond the bath, it wasn't a real problem if the doors were ajar. No in-room safe, The breakfast was good with a hot meat and eggs (bacon one day, sausage the next; cheese omelet followed by fried eggs), Belgian waffle maker, assortment of cereals, pastries, breads, yogurts, juices, and coffee. The entrance from Hughes Blvd can be abrupt and very close to the rival hotel next door; there is also an entrance from Church Street into the parking area.

Hotel is easy to find, the staff was friendly. The property is an older one but in good condition. The room is good size and the beds comfortable. Bath area is good size but dark and there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom which makes it very humid. The air conditioner only works intermittently and the staff is not responsive. The A/C was not fixed in the 4 days we stayed there. They gave me a $30.00 credit but I would have preferred they fix the A/C. The breakfast was okay but the breakfast area is inadequate, too small.

Room tip: Ask for new room if room is deficient in any way.

Dear 61 Yankees,

Thank you for letting us know what we did good with your stay along what we can improve upon, I have had my Maintenance guy look at the AC and he went ahead and serviced the unit and found everything was in working order. The unit has a heat pump when it hit the desire setting that you place on the control panel in turns itself off and on when the temperature falls above or below settings.

The room was clean. The bathroom was clean. The beds were comfortable and clean. The air conditioner made the air feel clean too. I feel that the air conditioner unit probably should have had its filter changed after one or two nights of breathing the air. I wiped the slots on it so that any dust would not blow on me. I moved the chair in front of the air vents to keep the air from blowing on me. I had too many things to do so I didn't call to have anyone come and check the unit. The bathroom was clean. I don't like the new style bath counters that most hotels are using because they put the towels on the shelves under the counter and to close to the toilet. So everyday, I took them out and put the towels on the tv stand. The breakfast was OK for us. I liked the bacon strips and the scrambled eggs. I had the decafe coffee and a container of yogart. I didn't care for the omelette's filling which was a dab of something other than cheese.

Room tip: Top floor.

Expedia and Comfort Inn refused to reimburse me for a room after I checked into and then decided to leave early due to weather. I informed both Expedia and the Inn the night before, checked out the next morning and they charged me for the next night anyway. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THROUGH EXPEDIA. Expedia tried to get Comfort Inn to accept the check-out & they refused!

Dear Guest,

I do see that you made a non cancel able, non changeable reservation thru Expedia.com. I always tell guest to book thru the hotels reservation channels or hotel directly. The hotels dont charge for reservation in advance unless you choose advance purchase rates. and if you need to leave early the hotels can and will will work with you on this were as expedia or priceline will not.

Like most hotels, there are different levels of services and ratings. This Comfort Inn did not compare to others I have stayed. The lobby was very very small and not inviting. The grounds or surrounding environment did not give me a comfortable feeling. However, I gave it a try and actually checked in. Once I got to my room and opened the door I knew I had made a mistake. Although the curtains were opened it was still dark and looked like a dorm room. Then I decided to look out of the window. My view was the side of the Days Inn, it appeared to old and unkept. Based on that and the surroundings, I knew then once night fell, I would be afraid to return to the hotel. I returned to the front desk and advised the front desk agent that I just didn't feel comfortable. She allowed me to check out and not charge my card. I was thankful for her understanding.

Thank you for giving a chance I wish we was able to control what the Days Inn owners do to there property but we cannot. I feel the rating you gave so is not fair to the hotel.
