This restaurant is now called SILK ROAD DIM SUM and new owners took over a scant two weeks ago.
The old name PETER WANG’S still hangs outside and the Manager told me their sign is still being fabricated.
Surprisingly I found it under Silk Road but when we asked folks familiar with the area, no one knew of a dim sum place in Cary.
We ordered a wide variety of dishes- Beef Tripe in spicy black bean sauce, Beef Tendon in a fiery Sichuan chili paste, Chive dumplings, Shumai, a shrimp and pork filled mini cup, Spicy Chicken Feet, Red Bean Sesame Buns and the Spare Rib Tips in Black bean and sweet potato sauce.
I found the dishes to be almost New York quality in the preparation, taste and presentation and with the exception of the spare rib tips, which were unfortunately almost all fat, the rest of the food was in fact very good.
Judging from how crowded they were I can only imagine they will improve and I will forward to trying some additional dishes both of their dim sum and regular menu.
For all of you with taste buds craving a new experience, give SILK ROAD DIM SUM a try. Start with the basics AND ask, others around you and the staff that bring the dim sum carts around. You will not be disappointed and you will enjoy the communal aspect of this type of eating. Start slow as you will have a table full of empty dim basket surrounding you before long.
Relax, chat- that is the main purpose of this CHINESE TAPAS style of food.
Congratulations on a job well done and continued success.
