Combine attention to detail, dedication to the customer experience, and a beautiful location and you wind up with the Inn on the Pamlico Sound. This boutique inn & restaurant is located right on the Pamlico Sound in Buxton, within 1-2 hours of most major OBX attractions. We stopped in for just one night but before we'd even finished our first drink, we were already planning a return trip to stay longer. The rooms are tidy, clean, and well decorated. They aren't big rooms, but had plenty of space for me and my wife (and even allowed us to comfortably have my parents join us at the end of the evening to watch a movie). The deck connected to our room had a great view of the sound, the inn grounds, and had a retractable wall that allowed us to easily go back and forth between our deck and my parents deck. The bathroom was well outfitted and had a comfortable shower. They leave an assortment of snacks for you in the room, as well as have cookies, chocolate, drinks & coffee available in communal areas throughout the day.

The inn grounds contain many nice spaces for relaxation and activities. There is a home theater where guests can play films chosen from a huge selection of 2,000+ DVD's. There is also a nice assortment of board games & books available in a common reading area. A spacious outdoor deck would be a great spot for a morning coffee or evening cocktail. Most importantly, the grounds include a small pier & yard near the water & as well as access to a small soundside beach.

During our one evening at the inn, we dined on-site at their terrific, casual, fine-dining restaurant. We started off with a drink at the bar before moving to our table. Both the bartender and the waitstaff took great care of us. All the food was good but the Sushi Appetizer and Pork Osso Bucco were particularly good. We would have loved to try more of their menu.

All-in-all, we loved our short stay at the Inn and hope to come back in the future. It's hard to say what was our favorite part of Outer Banks, but it's easy to say that this inn was out favorite accommodation.

Steve the owner is very accommodating and proudly gives you an introductory tour of the place. Access to 2500 movies, home theatre available first-come first-served, pool. We stayed in the Lilly room—right on ocean with a balcony. Above average incidentals (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel), HD TV. Only negative was very poor wifi reception. They offer you an Ethernet cable but that does you no good if you have a Mac. Dining room also has great ocean views. For appetizers, we got brie pastry w/ green apples, honey and walnuts--excellent. Also a smoked fish plate, which was good. Entrees: flounder with risotto, which had a delish blend of spices; garlic shrimp and pasta. Great wine and beer list. Good choices for breakfast. The muffins had molten fruit centers –delicious. One day the muffin was brought heated another day it wasn’t; it’s much better heated. Service was quick and friendly.

The Inn has a good vibe with a homey feel. My room had a lovely view of the Sound. The wood floors are nice. The owner Steve was very friendly and helpful. We stayed 2 nights and ate at the restaurant both nights and both mornings. The food was exceptional and the wait staff were knowledgable and friendly. It is not far from the Ferry to Ocracoke, which we took for a day visit.

This has become our favorite place on the island. Thanks to the Innkeepers for their hospitality. Thanks to Cafe’ Pamlico staff for coming in on their off day to feed us after the storm. Thanks STEVE!
