Delicious food and great beer selection! Service was great and very personable. Highly recommended for a non-chain meal.

Based on a very quick read of these reviews we were expecting a very small, family friendly casual sandwich shop. This is a bit larger, and much cozier and nicer than that (and a little pricier, but worth it). We had a variety of menu items (all delicious) and our server was terrific. We were ignored for a lengthy amount of time when we walked in (a young man was at the desk doing ??? and didn't acknowledge us for a good 5 minutes which was weird since it was not crowded at all); but I'm glad we stayed because we really had a lovely meal. It's tucked away on a side street and a little hard to find, so get directions before you go.
My wife and I were in Banner Elk reciently and decided to visit the Frog and Monkey again. Each time we visit we find something else exciting for our palates. This time we tried the watermelon soup. It was out of this world. Go by, see John and his awesome little eatery.
We walked in soon after they opened for lunch and were the first table seated, meaning we had the undivided attention of the staff. They pointed out that most of their ingredients were locally sourced when available and throughout the meal, you could tell. From the hummus for the family to my cup of broccoli and leeks soup, to the cottage pie (think shepherds pie), it was all fantastic. As the fourth meal in as many days in the Banner Elk area, and the first three all being great, we fully expected to be let down...too bad, as this meal was just as good as the rest and the service was great.
Great for a casual dinner date and for visiting group that want something local - food and atmosphere. Super cute and awesome service. The chef came to our table twice to see how we were doing.
Recommend the creamy tomato bisque with roasted red peppers also the flatbreads are great. Small menu but good variety of sandwiches, burgers and seafood.
