We have stayed at MHI before, and really enjoyed it...But this experience was a bit different. The first morning we woke up at 6:00 am to sounds of children running up above us. By the second morning, the children were not only running, but seemed to be jumping off of furniture in the room above, to the point that my hairbrush fell off of my dresser from the room shaking. I asked the inn keeper to please address it, as it was extremely loud and interrupting our mornings. Sadly, It continued again on the 3rd morning. I have 4 children of my own, actually at 1 time,i had 3 toddlers under 3 y/o, so I do understand children, but mine knew at a young age that running and jumping only occurred outside. We have already discussed plans to stay elsewhere on our annual trip to Bald Head due to our experience on this past visit. Our cost was $1300.00 for 3 nights, and we found out that for an extra $200, we could've rented a large house, without the noise and disturbance.

I traveled to Bald Head with two girlfriends for a weekend and we stayed at the Marsh Harbor. The inn rents out units (kind of like hotels or suites) on behalf of owners, so your experience there will vary depending on the owner's interest. Our unit included apartments 9 and 11 which is a one-bedroom with a kitchen and living area. We had a pull out sofa and a roll-away bed, neither was comfortable alone but stacked atop one another was good. So I suggest that you make sure that you have enough actual beds to accommodate each adult and avoid pull-outs. The room was clean, well appointed, nicely decorated.

Clean and well-kept, delicious breakfasts!
We had a wonderful time on the island, and coming back to a restful, clean inn was the perfect complement to that. Marsh Harbour is located within walking distance to restaurants.
It is not within walking distance to the beach, but is a comfortable bike ride. The golf carts are not as new as some on the island, and that caused a little problem as we held up traffic due to ours being very slow.
This is a fairly family friendly place, but the guests while we were there were mostly retirement age couples.

We spent a weekend at this inn in November. The inn was very clean and our room and bed were comfortable. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The island was wonderful, very calm and peaceful. The inn assigned a golf cart to the guests in each room, so we were able to get around on this car-free island. My only complaint is that the breakfast was truly a continental breakfast, just toast, pastries, and coffee. This would have been OK if there had been somewhere else on the island to eat a more substantial breakfast. There is only one restaurant on the island! Despite this, we had a wonderful time and plan to return to the inn!

Recently stayed at Marsh Harbor Inn and frankly we were disappointed. The Inn is in need of a major update, from renovating the bathrooms, correcting electrical problems, updating the furniture and an overdue paint job.
The Island boasts it's easy access by golf cart and yet the Inn supplies carts that are older than dirt.
The Inn keepers were nice but really didn't have the answers to many problems we and other guests had. Seemed as though they were only interested in selling the guests a fractional ownership in the Inn, which was a bit weird.
