Just outside the main road in the village of St. Emilion, Lard et Bouchon is a great restaurant which serves mostly typical french cuisine, with a modern touch and some influences from the mediterranean cuisine.
I had the beef tartare and confit de canard: the quality of both was outstanding, preparation of the tartare was delicious and the beef itself was delicious. Confit de canard, one of the staples of southwestern France cuisine, did not disappoint: it was tasty, being cooked in its own fat and seasoned with delicious herbs, with a savoury juice that kept it perfectly moist and tender.
Both dishes were served with a side of vegetables (salad, champignons and a delicious aubergine purée for the canard, millefeuilles of potatoes and salad for the beef tartare).
Being in the heart of the Bordeaux wine country, the wine list is also pretty amazing and has an excellent selection of local wines, with a few select labels from other regions of France and the rest of the world. A decent selection of wines by the glass is also available and the host will be glad to assist you with the wine/food pairing.
Prices are reasonable (entries from 12 to 20 €, main course go from 18 to 25 €), probably not cheap but definitely worth every cent given the quality of the products and the overall service provided.
