Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Service

A very pleasant stay. Very friendly and helpful staff, interesting rooms, convenient location, close to just about everything.
Very different experience from a "standard" hotel. No two rooms are the same, all on different levels. Nicely and traditionally decorated and very clean. If you have trouble going up the stairs, you may want to choose a room on a lower level. No elevator but the staff will get your luggage up/down - no worry. Though the stairs are challenging, they are doable even if you stay at the very top floor. Very nice breakfast. WiFi was good everywhere.
We really enjoyed evening tea on a balcony. Overall, very pleasant memories. Thanks, Daniela, for running such a nice place!

Room tip: The higher you climb (literally), the more "luxury" it gets, If your knees are not your best friends, reserve lower rooms.

Thank you so much for this great feedback and for taking the time to write it. And yes: the stairs may be a bit challenging, but the handrails help and we had pregnant women and elderly even on the top floor, so all in all, feasible. And thanks for the personal recognition, but it's still a team effort! And we're all happy you took home pleasant memories: it's the most important thing.

BEAUTIFUL hotel and excellent service!

I absolutely loved my stay at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel, which is aptly named - I felt like an absolute queen staying here. It was really comfortable, and our room was so beautiful. I also feel like the staff were really kind and accomodating - our flight was delayed, but they had no problem keeping our bags behind the desk so we could go explore Stone Town. Loved it!

Not up to their own descriptions.

Our main complaint is that we were lead to believe we were renting a suit suitable for 4 people with 3 beds: a king and 2 twins. A perfect arrangement for a family of 4 adults – our grown children traveled with us.

In reality we rented one room, one huge, luxurious bathroom, and something like an antechamber – a narrow, *windowless* pathway from the staircase that connected the bedroom and the bathroom. One of the twin beds was placed in this antechamber, taking up all the space that wasn’t used for walking. The other twin bed? In our bedroom. It was not too uncomfortable because we were a family; it would have been a lot more uncomfortable if 2 couples decided to rent this “suit” to see what it was like staying in an historic hotel. Oh, and the king size bed wasn’t even a queen – more like full.

Another problem is that there was not enough hot water for showers. I understand about boilers, but this is supposed to be a luxurious hotel; they can make sure more than 1 person can take a shower in the morning.

Everything else was fine. I would probably rate this hotel higher if it wasn't supposed to be the best hotel in town.

We‘re truly sorry you felt misled as we truly do our best to portray the specificity of every room with as many pictures as we can, but we appreciate your feedback
We fully agree: this kind of suite is usually better for couples with children, and definitely not for two grown up couples.
And thank you for your feedback about the water: we checked it recently and it was enough for 4 standard showers: we’ll run another check asap to make sure everything is in order.

LOVED this hotel!! ❤️❤️❤️

My 12 year old daughter and I visited Zanzibar in August 2022 from San Diego, California, and had never been to the country or Stonetown before and had a bit of culture shock to work thru. We checked into the Zanzibar Palace Hotel and it’s like all of our homesickness and worries evaporated. The staff were so incredibly caring, warm, personable, and helpful… getting to know us personally, checking that our tour guides were arriving on time, our meals were exactly as we liked them, our umbrellas were ready, our directions around town were clear…. They treated us like family. Which being so far from home in a new place with my daughter was exactly what I needed at the time. We stayed in one gorgeous and charming room on the very top floor, with an open air bathroom overlooking the city. Every detail of hospitality had been thought of. The room was clean, fresh, so authentically traditional, featuring design elements from all the cultures from the past that made Zanzibar so special. We ended up having to expand our stay from 2 nights to 5! And Daniela, the hotel owner, could not have been more accommodating. We ended up asking her to join us for a meal her and there between welcoming new arriving guests… we enjoyed her wonderful company and stories of her travels and the hotel itself. Before we departed, my daughter put a pin on the lobby map, adding to the sea of other traveler’s pins… all those lucky enough to have spent a little time within the walls of the magical Zanzibar Palace Hotel!

Wow, Erika: thank you so much for finding the time of writing such a great review.
Mostly, I’m happy the team and I were able to make you and your daughter enjoy Stone Town. I understand the first impact can be a bit of a shock, but once you learn to know it, Stone Town is really a cool place, which deserves a few days at least, as you discovered yourself. And at the Zanzibar Palace Hotel, we all do our best for our guests to get the most out of their visit, also providing a nice environment after a day of exploring.
It was so pleasant talking with you and your daughter: thanks also for inviting me to share our experience, and to share yours!

Be right in the center of city's life.

We stayed two nights in this hotel in the center of lively Stone Town. We had the room on the top floor so had to walk up 3 ( or more :-) ) storeys. But it was worth it. A wonderful view and quite an experience of the capital of Zanzibar.
The staff was friendly and sincerely.
The owner of the hotel is an Italien lady who wears her heart on her sleeve, which for Americans might not be appropriate, but as Europeans we were able to put it in the right perspective.
