My boyfriend and I spent three days at Jafferji House and completely fell in love with its charm. This place is truly a hidden gem in stone town. The House has so much character and each of the rooms were artfully and uniquely designed. The staff was extremely attentive and every meal we had at the house was amazing (the rooftop restaurant was actually our favorite in all of town)! I’d highly recommend Jafferji House to anyone looking for a gorgeous and unique hotel in the heart of Stone Town.

I never knew about this place if it wasn't for The Entertainer, and I am glad I came across it.

Words cannot describe the feeling you get once you walk into this tucked away hotel in the middle of Stone Town. The building is around 150 years old, renovated, and is owned by renounded photographer Javed Jafferji, who created his personal touches to the place. They offer 10 rooms ranging from Signature, Superior, and Superior Deluxe Suites.

We were given the Jafferji's Sultan Suite, part of their Superior Deluxe Suite. And what a room!!!! Named after The Sultans of Zanzibar who traveled around the world, finally declaring Zanzibar as their home.

The suite has it's own private lounge filled with beautiful silver-plated antique Indian sofas, an opulent Moroccan brass bath overlooking the old, Portuguese Fort. There is also a unique outdoor shower in case you felt adventurous.

Inside the room you will find a huge carved bed, a dark bathroom, and a relatively dark bathroom with muddy colors. We honestly felt like royalty!

Breakfast is served at Spices Lounge, where you get to enjoy local Zanzibari eggs & coffee.

The hotel is only 3 minutes walk from the beach, and Old Fort and the House of Wonders care are 200m away, so it's literally in the heart of the historical Stone Town.

Want to experience a boutique hotel in the heart of the city, with have a taste for eccentric decoration and unique experience?? This is your place.

Room Tip: Choose Jafferji's Sultan Suite, part of their Superior Deluxe Suite. You won't regret it!

It may look pretty in pictures. But my experience was horrible. Bathroom had no door. Shower had cold water only. They promised that would have sent maintenance but it never happened, not even after 3 times I asked for it. The room is super noisy. Not clean (check out the color of towels!!) staff is not friendly (which NEVER happens in Tanzania). Wi-Fi is slow. No AC. Avoid this place!!!

This is a beautiful, truly unique place to stay within Stone Town. However, given the price, it's hard to expect much less. The rooms are all quirky with unique features. We stayed there on our first two nights in Zanzibar, as we wanted a nice place to stay after our long flight. We moved around Unguja staying in different hotels, but this was definitely one of our favourite places to stay.

Room Tip: Check out the Freddie Mercury room - for lots of relevant memorabilia, photos, and records!

My partner and I enjoyed our stay at Jafferji in the princess Salme suite . While everything in Zanzibar runs on “island time” we had such a luxurious stay :)

The food from the restaraunt is delicious but does take a little while .. again.. this is universally the case in Zanzibar .. don’t be expecting to do anything in a rush!

The view from the rooftop is just stunning , and being so centrally located in stone town markets means you can do so much shopping and quickly dump your bags in the hotel room and go out again!

Look forward to coming back!
