Kisiwa House was beautiful and felt much more like a home than a hotel. It didn't offer some of the amenities that big hotels offer such as a pool etc but it is much more intimate and personal. The rooftop restaurant offers a spectacular setting and the food was delicious albeit not quite the standard I expected after reading some of the reviews on here. The hotel is in the middle of Stone Town and therefore ideally located for sight seeing and a real haven to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. Loved it.

We stayed at Kisiwa House on our last night in Zanzibar, and by far it was the best place we came across at the island. The personnel was helpful, rooms were very clean, food was delicious.
We have been quoted $180, but the price we end up paying was $144. Zanzibar is the capital of bargaining, and unfortunatley nice hotels are no exception to this.

Lovely hotel. Excellent and courteous staff. Located in the heart of stone town near all tourist attractions. Well appointed rooms, great bathroom facilities. Surprisingly, the hotel food was exceptional – excellent breakfast on the rooftop restaurant with an amazing view. We will certainly stay there again on our next visit.

We really enjoyed this hotel right in the heart of Stone Town, but away from the noisy front row streets. The staff were very accommodating, however the AC in the first room we had was not working properly and we had to change rooms. The staff told us the owners were about to replace all the AC's in each room in the coming months. I checked out all the top hotels in Stone Town during our 4 day visit and kept thinking ours was the best for the price and location. It's small and therefore more intimate, with excellent breakfasts on the top floor restaurant. It does not have good views from the rooms but other than that we could not fault this 170 year old building with great bathrooms, furniture, bedding, etc. Definitely we would stay there again. Loved the free, constant wi-fi.

Room Tip: It's a schlep to the top floor rooms and the views are not worth the extra hike although you can...

We stayed one night in a Malkia junior suite on the second floor. The room was quiet with good air conditioning. The room was very spacious and tastefully furnished and the building itself a lovely, restored 19th century mansion. Location was excellent. We were tired post-safari and dined on the hotel`s outdoor rooftop deck. Setting was lovely but the food only average. At first we were daunted by the maze of streets of Stone Town but we quickly got our bearings and we would have tried other dining options had we stayed longer, including the vendor stalls at the Fordahani Gardens. However, we did enjoy our stay at Kisiwa House and the front desk kindly allowed us a free 90 minute late departure to time with our transfer to our beach hotel.

Room Tip: Malkia junior suite worth the extra money - looked a lot larger than the standard rooms.
