Our family love beach holidays and had not been back to Mauritius for 13 years as we really had not found any of the resorts compared to resorts in Maldives or Seychelles then we heard about Luxe Grand Baie and booked for our family of six…. all our expectations in terms of five star luxury were exceeded. Architecture,
Decor, Food, Rooms, Bed, Spa, Beach, SERVICE…. Ashouk the deputy GM, the new GM, the driver Manoj, all the team in the restaurants and spa (Anju) were just awesome. This hotel is a game changer for Mauritius…we cannot say enough positive things about this resort accept we cannot wait to come back! Bravo LUX GRAND BAIE!!!

We have just returned from our 10 day Honeymoon at Lux Grande Baie. We had originally booked for Lux Belle Mare but due to the terrible and devastating fire at that resort we were allocated Grande Baie instead .
We were initially disappointed as we were just offered the “standard” Lux junior suite as at Belle Mare we had upgraded to a larger suite. However, we need not have worried. The junior suite was beautiful with a pool and ocean view from a large balcony. The sumptuous bathroom had a large rainfall shower, stand alone bath tub , twin sinks and a fancy Japanese toilet (if you know, you know!). The toiletries were divine ..The bed is huge and incredibly comfortable . All the lighting and blinds are controlled on a smart key pad. The minibar was well stocked and replenished daily . Housekeeping kept the room scrupulously clean at all times .

We arrived at the hotel with no luggage as the airline had lost it. The hotel provided us with toothbrushes and toothpaste , clean t shirts, shorts and sweat pants which was a nice touch.

We were warmly greeted by the reception staff and the Deputy General manager, Ashok Bhugoo. We informed the staff it was in fact my husband’s birthday as well as being the start of our honeymoon . We had booked the Honeymoon package but there was no real acknowledgment of this on our arrival. No bottle of fizz or flowers or any special touches in the room which I think would be a nice gesture and something the hotel should think about for the future .
The following morning, a member of staff phoned our room to arrange to meet us to book our Honeymoon package extras in.
We met with Kay, and were very disappointed with her accusatory and very cold attitude towards us from the outset. There was clearly a mix up with the booking as she announced we were only staying 9 nights . We explained that is was 10 nights and that we were originally booked at Belle mare so perhaps there had been a mix up with dates from their admin side but our booking was most definitely 10 nights and our flight home coincided with this. We had already given the accommodation voucher in when we arrived which clearly said 10 nights. However, we were made to “prove” that we had booked 10 nights which involved us having to contact our travel agent to E-mail the vouchers again and co tact the hotel . It felt as if she thought we were lying about our stay and quite frankly it made me feel very upset . We weren’t allowed to book all our honeymoon extras until we “proved“ our length of stay.

Anyway, we “proved” our booking and eventually got all our extras booked by the following day.

The honeymoon package included a champagne breakfast in our room . The breakfast was delicious and plentiful but there was no champagne.
The couples honeymoon spa treatment (60min massage) was absolutely divine.
We did not take up the offer of the photo shoot as we don’t particularly like posing for photos. Nor did we do the Food lab experience (Kay didn’t exactly sell it to us as being worthwhile so we didn’t bother).
We booked the romantic meal for 2 in the beach coccoon . Unfortunately , that was the one night of the holiday when there was torrential rain so that was aborted . We had to eat our meal in the busy Beach Rouge restaurant which coincidentally was “Fish night”. Now, I’m not allergic to fish or seafood but have a massive aversion to the sight and smell of it so I can’t say this romantic meal was enjoyable ( although our actual was in fact delicious). Even though we were all inclusive , we were actually presented with a bill at the end of this evening which we had to get corrected.

Half way through our stay, our shower door came off it’s rollers. Thankfully , it was my husband in the shower at the time and not me or else I would have been crushed.
It took the staff 3 attempts to move us to a new room and we had to waste 2 hours of our time packing and unpacking as we were ushered to 3 different alternative suites .

All the above negatives aside, we did have a lovely holiday but these little incidents just added up to make out honeymoon not as special as we would have wished. We were also very disappointed that even though we highlighted it was my husband’s birthday there was no cake or candles or fuss (we noted other people through the week had such).

The hotel is absolutely stunning. The roof top pool and bar is sensational . All the food in all the restaurants was delicious and the cocktails sublime . The beach is beautifully clean and the bay is ideal for swimming and water sports . There are plenty of sun loungers and beach towels are provided.

The spa was beautiful. A real sanctuary for peace and tranquility .

We used the gym most days. It’s very well equipped and all the staff super friendly and helpful. The air con could do with being a little cooler though at times in the gym!!

We must give a special mention to Nitin from the main Beach Rouge bar. His customer service was exceptional and he was always there to great us with a warm, friendly smile and was always quick to replenish our drinks and cocktails . He’s a real credit to the hotel.

So all in all, it’s a stunning hotel, the food is excellent and the staff very pleasant, helpful and friendly . But please make more of a fuss of your Honeymoon guests!!! It’s a special time for them and one that they don’t intend to repeat . It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to be spoilt and should leave them positive memories only .

Room tip: The junior suites have great sea and pool views , especially on second floor

We stayed in the penthouse pool villa for four nights and loved every minute of our stay. We chose here as our ‘super-special’ end to our family holiday (having stayed elsewhere for a week on our first time in Mauritius) and all of us loved it: 2x children under 7, 2x teens my husband and I. We cannot wait to go back again!
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the whole place was exceptional. The attention to detail was phenomenal.
All staff were friendly through our stay, always saying hello and available to answer any questions, help with activities/food etc.
The food in particular was fantastic-I am a coeliac and so they ensured that I was catered for and comfortable at every meal.
Usually I am offered one or two alternatives, but in every restaurant (we tried all three!) the choice was amazing.
The children’s club ‘play’ was an added bonus-friendly and professional staff who gave our littlens lots of fun. It allowed me (mum) to have some me time while the teens loved the free water sports on offer. The waterskiing was a particular favourite and the staff were patient and knowledgeable.
By far the best part of the whole experience was Prakash, our kind and lovely ‘butler’ for the stay. He was always on hand to help book activities, restaurants and make suggestions in order to maximise our stay. On our last night he helped to organise sunset canapés and drinks to ensure that we had the best experience.
In conclusion, a phenomenal place with many happy and beautiful memories. As soon as we get the chance to revisit, we’ll be there!

Had such a lovely time at Lux Grand Bay.
Firstly the hotel is mesmerizing, the concept is very unique. The staff ever so welcoming and warm, as well as the GM Mr Ashok. Atmosphere is very pleasant.
