I just had their canoli cake with strawberries and rum filling, real whipped cream frosting with slivered almonds for my Birthday. Fantastic!! One of the best and oldest Italian bakeries in Utica.

If the Florentine ever closes, I will be pretty much out of reasons to ever visit Utica, they may as well shut the city down. The pastries are the best you will ever have. Coffee is great, service is perfect.

Go to the Florentine Pastry Shop on Bleecker (not the other one in New Hartford) and you won't be sorry. There is a reason this fine Italian establishment has been in business since 1928.

The cappuccino coffees are the BEST. The pastries are ridiculously good and heartwarmingly cheap: a fine Raspberry or Rum Neapolitan will set you back just two dollars, and you will have fun trying to eat it because it's so plump and loaded with cream. Trust me, you are likely to end up with cream on your face at some point.

The deeply dark and decadent $2 Tiramisu hums with notes of coffee and rum and also oozes cream in the most appealing way. The $1.75 cannoli are just the right size and crumble satisfying apart in the mouth. The $2 Florentine Kisses, dark chocolate-crusted mounds of rich hazelnut cream over a sponge base, are as hard to resist as the chocolate-coated Peanut Butter Bombs. Sometimes it's tough to choose.

My advice when faced with this embarrassment of riches is to go for a sit-down coffee and cake and then take a box of pastries home with you, so you can savor the memories, or even try something new.

My only complaint is that the last few times I've been in, the succulent rum babas, my personal favorite, were simply not there. I think the management needs to get on that.
