We took our daughter out for a birthday dinner. Took awhile to get seated because they were short a server and we were 20 minutes late for our reservation. The food was great and the greeter and our waiter were very attentive. My daughter was cold and they brought her a blanket! Falafel was definitely the best I have ever had. Pasta main course excellent as well as was the salmon. We would definitely return.

Food was creative and fresh. Large portions. The dining room was a huge glass windowed room overlooking lake cayuga. The inn is a sumptuously restored 1873 mansion filled with fine antique furnishings
. Service was impeccable. We stayed at the in. As well for two nights and it was wonderful! Breakfast was great and inn right next to taughannock falls.

This is a 3 star restaurant where tourists can pay 5 star prices. Well worth driving 15 minutes to eat elsewhere. Appearances are very deceiving here. Food is comparable to a higher end Jersey diner. Portions are similar.... I would prefer better quality for these prices.

The Inn at Taughannock has changed and so much for the better. New ownership has transformed a tired old inn into a lovely dining spot with a new chef who is turning out some delightful offerings. The outside deck is great for cocktails on a summer night (complete with firepit) and the menu is a welcome diversion from the norm for this area. We dined on the grilled sirloin strip and the crab cakes and each was perfectly cooked, the crab was yummy crab vs a lot of "filler" and there is a nice wine selection and the crowning glory was the ricotta cheesecake. Don't miss that!! Staff was polite, knowledgeable and observant without being obvious. The dining room is warm and welcoming overlooking Cayuga Lake and all in all a delightful dining experience. The INN is back and well worth the visit.

Thank David .

The service is intolerable making the experience poor overall, despite a pretty location and acceptable food. Strangely, while the severs are individually (mostly) pleasant and trying to do a good job, the overall effect was a failure. Some examples:

-At each step the delays were inordinate, taking what should have been an hour's meal to more than two hours
-Some of the silverware had insects on it, and ants were visible in the dining area.
-Elements of the table setting were missing, such as missing spoons for the coffee, serving a parfait with a soup spoon, forgetting to provide a fork, etc.
-Parts of our order were lost by the server, including asking for all of us to repeat our orders for a whole course.
-The hostess acted like she was doing us a favor by taking us to our table
-Even paying the bill was delayed as the manager wandered from table to table, distracted by other business.

By the end of the meal my guests were making Fawlty Towers jokes - never a good thing. Based on comments from local friends who have tried Taughannock previously, our experience was not unique, and we saw at least one set of diners give up and walk out.

And all of this at prices which suggest that the Inn is trying to compete with the far better restaurants seven miles away in Ithaca. Since Ithaca is such a good food and restaurant town, there's no reason to even consider Taughannock.
