“Real Swiss quality food and service, antique interior, dream place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2010

Was in the area couple of times, but usually looked online for restaurants to get lunch or dinner beforehand, I could have traveled 2 hours to my favorite place, but what i got here is amazing..!!! We actually got special permission to stay, because we had no reservations (required!!!). Food is worth traveling from NY for 3 hours, a beautiful place outside the town, and although I did not stay in hotel, I plan to do ASAP. I forgot the last time I saw such great service, perhaps somewhere in Europe, and you think that you are actually in Switzerland. There is no reason to discuss the food quality. Unparalleled fresh made, baked, cooked. All spices and are fresh. Did I mention the freshly baked bread ? And about the water - no chlorine (surprise!).
When I looked around the whole restaurant, I noticed a lot of almost-museum quality accents of interior, from the entrance to the bathroom. The table is covered by tablecloth, you do not have to keep your fork or knife for the next dish, they have cloth and paper napkins, perfect tableware, soft and warm light... your eyes relax just from looking around.
A very rare combination of excellent food, memorable interior, professional service, and it satisfied mine and the expectations of my young lady daughter and of my teenage son. What a beautiful experience for them! I hope they pleasantly surprise us the next time we visit!

I have never stayed in a room at the Swiss Chalet hotel, but I have eaten in the restaurant many times, which I can honestly say has a very cozy and loving atmosphere and is also absolutely spotless. Basically, I have eaten in just about every single restaurant in New York that serves Swiss cuisine and nothing comes close to the quality of the food I have eaten here. The menu is very traditional and features many dishes that are extremely difficult to find anywhere else. My favorite is the Rahm Schnitzel (usually called Zürcher Geschnetzeltes) which is veal in a cream and mushroom sauce, served with rösti and red cabbage; of course there are also traditional German dishes like Jäger Schnitzel and Sauerbraten. The salad is crisp and fresh, the bread is fresh-baked, the appetizers are amazing (pastetli and escargot are out of this world), and the main dishes are always superb. The dessert is irresistibly delicious and tempting (the Chocolate Mousse is a wonderful way to end your meal). The Swiss Chalet is by far one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in and is definitely worth the trip whenever you are in Windham or Hunter. **BE SURE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS!**

Was staying at a different B&B but had to try the Swiss Chalet's food. Food was phenomenal, atmosphere was eclectic (ate in a room full of cuckoo clocks). We spoke with the chef/owner, Robert, who is one of the nicest, funniest, eccentric people I have ever met. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying near Hunter Mtn or Tannersville.

our family has been going to see rob and linda since 1993 to present. we resided in east hampton longisland and would travel up for a aniversiery dinner and then drive back in the same day. rob's restaurant is the cleanest sanitary kitchen you will ever see. the food is the best any whare. living in a high end area that boasts its restaurants, nothing in the hamptons comes close to robs cooking and lindas dinning room. the atmosphire is a warm comfortable cozy lair. the only dissapointment is you will have to eat another chefs cooking when you leave. we have moved to canadain 2004, georigan bay ontario, and still make the trip at least once a year for more great family memmories.rob, linda, tommy and mike, we miss you guys and hope to see you soon. best always and happy new year. chris, ria, sami-jo ( to all you readers, i know i cant spell, ha,ha,)

Booked this place by shear chance and was thrilled. Reasonably priced, lovely swiss chalet room with ensuite and a fantastic restaurant. Run by Linda and Robert who are both so friendly and helpful. Close to hikes and short walk into town of Tannersville. It's up in the mountains so a bit tricky to travel to without a car, but worth it for good hikes. Would definitely recommend and return myself. Thank you Linda for a lovely stay!
