Six of us gathered at Citronelle for a celebration dinner recently. We were seated in he second dining room which is tastefully decorated and reasonably quiet, thanks to a soundproof ceiling. Our waiter, Aaron, took our drink order (from a very nicely thought out beverage list) and brought us a fresh-from-the oven baguette to start us off. We sampled several of the appetizers (octopus, Spanish ham, tuna poke), all of which were attractively plated and very tasty. The star entrée was the roasted chicken which got rave reviews from three of our diners.

Service throughout was well paced without rushing. All in all, a very good start for the restaurant. We look forward to coming back soon.

We were so looking forward to trying this restaurant because it’s sister restaurant, The Lemon Grass is one of best around. Atmosphere and service is 5 stars so we were really excited. Cocktails 5 stars. Next food so we decided to order a bunch of food and find another great restaurant in CNY. The 4 of us ordered mussels, octopus, calamari, wings, steaks, fish, scallops, pasta and 2 desserts! That is where it kind of went sideways. We sent back the fish and shrimp pasta because it was over cooked and the Chef replaced it immediately. The wings and steaks we amazing and everything else was good, not great, not amazing and not memorable enough to want to go back. The desserts were awful. I am sure it will get better, but you need great food to have a 5 star restaurant. This is too nice of a restaurant not to have the food be amazing so I hope they work it out and when they do we will be back!

My friends and I go out once a week and try a new restaurants .This restaurant was A first time for all of us.The waiter could not have been more attentive. He was knowledgeable and helped walk us through the menu. the food arrived and was beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. One observation would be that the design of the interior was not conducive to absorbing the noise, however, the volume did not interfere with our conversation and added to the energetic atmosphere.

We were a table of 10 for Syracuse parents’ weekend seated in the back room. Several other large (and some not so large) parties also dining. We had a 7:30 dinner reservation and were seated right away. Took a while for someone to come get our drink orders (and our waiter, Aaron, was friendly and tried to put a smile on). Drinks took longer than should have. Eventually ordered dinner sometime after 8. Appetizers finally arrive sometime after 8:30. Dinner doesn’t arrive. Dinner still doesn’t arrive. Early large parties leave so we think maybe we’ll get more attention. Wrong. I see someone who appears to be the owner bringing food out to one table. One in our party goes to look for someone who appears to be a “head waiter”. He comes and says he’ll check. No apology. It’s now after 9 pm. Still no food. The individual who appears to be the owner comes to our table and says, “I understand you have not been served” —which is pretty evident from the lack of food on the table— “well, at least you have your appetizers.” I look at him and say “Not all of us ordered appetizers.” He says, “well, I’ve told the kitchen to move your order to the front of the line.” Another in our party asks, “do you mean they have not even started our orders yet?” He says again “I’ll tell the kitchen to move your orders to the front”. Still no apologies. (By the way, we are all from the Midwest and generally low key and what we like to refer to as “Midwest Nice”).

Dinner finally arrives sometime after 9:30. I had ordered lemon orichettie—it is cold and there is no lemon taste. Almost as if someone threw pre-cooked pasta noodles in bowl with other ingredients and forgot the lemon. My husband’s ravioli was also cold. My son said his steak was good.

Still no apologies or “thank you for waiting” or “we’re really sorry we had no idea we would be so backed up tonight” (which probably would not have been true, since every restaurant in Syracuse knows it is family weekend and there are tons of parents wanting to take out their students.

Someone brings out one (yes, one—remember we are a party of 10) complimentary churros. While it could be shared (and was by the hungry college students) we still cannot believe they did not bring two for the table—or ask if they could comp desserts of our choice—or some of the drinks or appetizers that had been ordered.

The good news was that we were with friends we enjoy and had conversation even though we were getting very hungry (some in our party had started travelling at 5 am EST).

And, in the case of my son, a marketing major in the business school, he is anxious to tell one of his professors how he experienced a theory that was discussed in lecture in real life. Maybe he’ll get extra credit points :)

Main room is beautiful, back room lacking in appeal. Food was very good. Price doesn’t quite fit the experience yet.
